The chip is a Quad-Core design with 4 threads. Intel’s 6600's performance is best when used with an Intel 100 series chipset motherboard. Previous generation Intel processors such as the Intel® Core™ i7-4790K processor used DDR3 memory, typically running at 1600 or 2133MHz. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with 1060 Bought this instead of the overclock able K version to save some money, mainly so I didn't have to get a Z-170 overclock able motherboard. It works great and when paired with a GTX 1060 and running triple A games such as GTA V, Witcher 3, Fallout 4 and Doom it only comes under 70% load max. So if your planning on a GTX 1060 or RX480 then this processor won't be the bottleneck in the system. Good service and fast delivery as always from Scan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fine example of Skylake If you're building a gaming PC on a budget, you've found your CPU. If you're going to invest extra in cooling and a Z170 motherboard, skip the 6600k and get a 6700k. This is a fantastic CPU for a quad core. Even with the stock cooler it is fast and cool. It also gets a lot out of most high end GPU's, up to and including a GTX 1070 or Fury X. The thing is, this is also a good example of why restricting clocks is such a bad idea. It really does feel like this CPU is capable of more. But at the end of the day, spending the extra on a 6600k also seems like its just not worth the extra cash. There really is no reason to over-clock at this performance level, you just wouldn't get "enough" benefit even if the clocks were good. Simply put, if you're going to spend more money on a cooling solution suitable for over-clocking and a motherboard for the same reason then you may as well spend the extra on the i7 6700k and over-clock that for near double the performance. So really, you'd be doing yourself a favor getting this over any i7 or the 6600k if you aren't interested in over-clocking and you're just interesting in simple setup PC gaming. It is a cracking CPU which will probably last into the next generation very comfortably.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent bang for the buck I am not heavily into gaming but do use large spreadsheets and want speed in applications. Running with an ASUS Z170-E and 32MB RAM, Windows 10 64 bit is very fast and stable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommend for non-overclock builds Having done the whole overclocking thing with my previous PC I now just wanted a PC that was quiet, low power and did the job with no hassle. This does that. If you are not looking to overclock and don't need hyperthreading, mainly looking for a gaming PC, then I would recommend the i5 6600, though I am not sure the increase in clock speed over the i5 6500 is worth the extra cost (I spent the extra money for it myself though). As with Intel, you are paying for this performance of course, hence the average value, but you do get quality for the price.

I wanted to see if Photoshop needed the i7's extra cores and if a dedicated graphics card was really necessary. Answer - the i5's four cores are fine and the Intel on-board graphics does the job perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional CPU for the price I bought this as part of a system upgrade to replace a budget-oriented, APU-based build. I elected for the standard 6600 as opposed to the "K" variant as I had no intention to overclock, though the socket type will allow for potential upgrades in future. Installation was a little tricky as I had to reseat the CPU twice before the system would post (this turned out to be an issue with the pre-applied thermal past on the H45 cooler), but having successfully completed the build; it is exceptionally fast and runs very cool (I've yet to see it go beyond 40C). If you have no real intention of overclocking, but wish for a good value CPU with solid performance and an upgrade path; this will suit you perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Was lucky and received a fantastic one :) Spec wise I was extremely happy when I decided to order the i5 6600 and found it to be excellent. Ignore the above review - to rate a product one star because of receiving a faulty unit is a frankly bizarre decision. It sits at the heart of my gaming machine, slotted neatly into its holster on an Asus ROG MAXIMUS VIII IMPACT. I couldn't be bothered with overclocking this time around so eschewed the K version and didn't regret my decision. Not had a single problem with it when gaming or just generally wasting time in the evenings doing computing things because it's in front of me. If you're not into overclocking but want a processor that can handle gaming then this is a your CPU.

Does this package include an Intel Heatsink and Fan

Yea it includes a heatsink and fan (all except the 'K' editions do I believe). I never used the stock cooler tho so don't know how well it performs as a cooler master upgrade was only £15. I heard the stock coolers can get noisy.
