The chip is a Quad-Core design with 4 threads. Integrated into the processor is Intel® HD Graphics 530 which delivers mainstream-level graphics with discrete-level performance and has full support for DirectX 12 API. Intel’s 6500's performance is best when used with an Intel 100 series chipset motherboard. Previous generation Intel processors such as the Intel® Core™ i7-4790K processor used DDR3 memory, typically running at 1600 or 2133MHz. The Core i5 6500 have an enhanced memory controller that supports DDR4 memory, giving you a very healthy performance boost over DDR3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect if you know you'll never overclock and if you're building something normal I'm a light gamer and on my last build I bought an i7 which was able to be overclocked however I really did not see the need to ever overclock it, so was bit of a waste. I would recommend this if you're building a reasonable PC with some gaming in mind, if you're not go with the lower option it's more than enough. Perfect if you know you'll never overlock too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good all arounder this cpu works fine for all your gaming needs for next couple of years although there is one small consequence to it compared with say i5-4590. The consequence is that older hasswell cpu had heatsink with copper base which results in better heat transferring meaning lower temperatures, the new heatsink is all aluminium although due to new architecture i can say that it actually works just as well so it's not really a hindering thing for performance, but just a little gimmick that would be nicer, intel definitely cuts corners with skylakes. On to the performance itself, with my build and my airflow directions im staying sub 30c during web browsing etc and up to 45 when gaming, paired with rx470 sapphire, those are really nice temps. During 2 hour stress test i made i've reached 59c peak temperature which is actually 2c less than my "old" hasswell i5-4590 so im quite pleased with it. Comparing it more to my previous cpu i can say that i see 0 DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER in terms of pure cpu performance but what was the biggest change was that skylake platform enables us to use ddr4 memory sticks which is a nice little boost to overall performance. Not something you need but something you definitely want.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgrade Upgrading son's gaming computer with new4GB EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC GAMING ACX 2.0, PCIe 3.0, 7010MHz GDDR5, GPU 1165MHz, Boost 1317MHz, Cores 1664, DP/HDMI/DVI graphics card and Asus Z170-E, Intel Z170, S 1151, DDR4, SATAe, M.2 (PCIe/SATA), 2-Way SLi/CrossFire, Intel Gigabit LAN, USB 3.1 C, ATX motherboard. These new quad processes are so quick and together with the new graphics card and motherboard he's now running on-line games on ultra setting at over three hundred frames a second compared to running on a low setting at thirty frames a second. He's happy so we are all happy!

What good Mobo's are compatible with this cpu?

I am looking into building a gaming pc and I am having trouble finding compatible motherboards. The last thing I want to do is spend £200 on a motherboard that won't work with this cpu.

im using asrock h110m-dgs it's really well made board and sooooooo cheap, the only consequence is that it has only 2 ram slots so it will be wiser to get a single 8gb ddr4 stick just to be able to expand it to 16gb later on, the said mobo can use only 2133mhz stick but that speed fits most of people needs.

Does it come with a stock cooler
