Product Overview

ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB720MK-B V3

Introducing the ToughArmor MB720MK-B V3, a rugged and removable quad M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD enclosure designed for a 5.25" optical drive bay. This powerful enclosure supports blazing-fast data transfer rates of up to 64Gbp/s through the OCulink (SFF-8612) interface and is compatible with Tri-mode host cards. Installing or removing M.2 NVMe SSDs has never been simpler, thanks to the removable drive trays with tool-less adjustable M.2 drive lockers. You can easily swap drives without having to open your computer case or mess with mounting screws.

To ensure top-notch cooling performance, the MB720MK-B V3 comes equipped with dual cooling fans in the back, effectively dissipating the heat generated by high-speed PCIe 4.0 SSDs. Moreover, each drive tray features an extra-large heatsink lid and thermal pad, keeping your SSDs at optimal temperatures. As part of ICY DOCK's toughest line, the MB720MK-B V3 boasts a full metal construction and metal barrel key locks, providing maximum protection for your valuable drives.

Now Compatible with Tri-Mode Controllers

By popular demand and in response to recent updates to circuit boards from host card manufacturers, the ToughArmor MB720MK-B V3 now supports Tri-Mode controller cards from leading brands like Broadcom, Areca, and more.

Superior PCIe 4.0 Performance

Unlock the full power of PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs with the ToughArmor MB720MK-B V3. Each drive bay features a dedicated OCuLink (SFF-8612) connector, enabling a whopping 64Gb/s bandwidth rate-twice as fast as PCIe 3.0 and ten times faster than SATA standards. This makes it a perfect solution for data-intensive applications like autonomous driving, mobile automation, real-time forecasting, film editing, and military computing.

Removable Drive Tray Design

Typically, M.2 SSDs are installed on the motherboard or adapter card and secured with tiny screws, requiring you to open the computer case to access the drives. The ToughArmor MB720MK-B V3 brings your M.2 NVMe SSDs to the 5.25" optical bay of your computer system, allowing you to swap drives without opening the case, making drive maintenance more efficient and hassle-free.

Patent-Pending M.2 Drive Locker

To install a drive, simply place the M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD in the drive tray, adjust the M.2 drive locker to the correct drive length, and you're good to go-no tools or screws needed!

Full Drive Length Support

The M.2 adjustable locker accommodates all standard M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD drives, including 2230 (30mm), 2242 (42mm), 2260 (60mm), 2280 (80mm), and 22110 (110mm), making it universally compatible and future-proof for extra-long M.2 110mm drives.

EMI Grounding Technology

Grounding your M.2 SSD is crucial, as swapping drives without proper grounding can lead to hardware damage from static shocks. Our innovative EMI Grounding Technology ensures that once the drive clips into the M.2 adjustable locker, it remains grounded through the tray, housing, and computer system, protecting your drives from static electrical surges during swapping.

ToughArmor Protection

Built to withstand harsh environments, the ToughArmor MB720MK-B V3 features rugged, heavy-duty full-metal protection throughout the entire device and tray. This makes it ideal for industrial devices requiring a flammability rating and suits various enterprise systems such as military and law enforcement industries, in-vehicle computers, and manufacturing settings like embedded control and factory automation systems.

Maximizing Cooling Performance

Since M.2 NVMe SSDs are known for generating high temperatures, it's essential to maintain operating temperatures at all times to prevent performance degradation. Each drive tray comes equipped with an extra-large, high-efficiency aluminium heatsink lid and thermal pad.

The dual 40mm cooling fans work together with strategically placed ventilation holes throughout the entire enclosure to disperse heat effectively.

Users can manually select from three fan speed settings-High, Low, and Off-to keep drives at optimal operating temperatures.

Packed with Features

An LED status light built into the tray indicates when your drive is powered up and in use, and it turns off when no drive is installed to save power.

For added security, the included key-lock can be used to protect against unwanted access and secure drives in rough environments, like military systems and in-vehicle PCs.

With individual drive ID labels, you'll always know which drive tray belongs in your RAID array or contains specific files. Feel free to rearrange or remove them to suit your configurations or for a cleaner look.

Exceptional Product Compatibility

The MB720MK-B V3 is compatible with motherboards, RAID/HBA cards, and M.2 adapters from major brands including Adaptec, Areca, Broadcom, HighPoint, Supermicro, and more. This compatibility gives you the freedom to choose from a wide range of hardware options, moving beyond the constraints of single-brand system configurations.

The ToughArmor MB720MK-B V3 is designed to work seamlessly with SATA 15-pin power cables and OCuLink cables equipped with a locking latch. This ensures cables remain firmly attached, minimizing the risk of unintentional disconnections during vibrations or movement. Once secured, these cables maintain a steadfast connection.
