Introducing the Icy Dock MB994SP-4S Quad Bay 2.5" SATA/SAS Mobile Rack for use in a single 5.25" device bay. This product is constructed of heavy duty metal to hold up in the toughest of conditions. It includes ventilation slots on the front, back, top and bottom for maximum airflow to keep both SATA and SAS drives running cool, and an LED is placed on the front of each drive tray to give the user drive status at all times. Dual 4-pin power connectors are used to ensure a consistent power supply to all 4 drives, whether they are low power SSD’s or power hungry 15000 RPM SAS drives. Also included are dual 40mm cooling fans to keep the drives running in at optimal temperatures in even the most intense applications. The fans utilize Active Power Technology, so that the fans only power up if there are drives installed. If no drives are inserted, neither fan will power up. If drives are only inserted on the right side, only the right-side fan will power up, and vice versa.
The MB994SP-4S utilizes our brand new EZ Slide Mini Trays, making drive interchangeability and maintenance completely hassle free. The trays are built using full metal so that they are durable for many lifetimes, but will not weigh you down when transporting your data from system to system. And featuring a full cage design, the added top drive cover provides added protection while moving the drive. The trays are also designed to accommodate 9.5mm, 12.5mm, and 15mm drives giving you the ultimate universal 2.5" hot swap bay.
Utilizing its small form factor, The MB994SP-4S is perfect for use in industrial PCs, servers, or any small form factor case where 5.25” bays are limited and large drive capacity is needed, especially compact RAID 5 systems. It is built to function in the most demanding environments including military and law enforcement deployment, as well as manufacturing conditions such as embedded control systems and factory automation systems. The heavy metal design makes it ideal for placement in rugged environments. Features

Excellent, great quality, sturdy, reliable productI started with one of these units in my home server, I now have 3, the oldest being 3 years old now and none of them have missed a beat. They are solid, rugged devices, it's nice to find an item these days that you can't really find any quality faults with.
I guess if i had one minor complaint, it would be that the fans can become slightly noisier over time. I have mine in my front room so have upgraded the fans to some 40mm Noctua, which I should point out was an easy job. I wouldn't have done this either if my server would have been somewhere else in the house, but the 10 fans in the server could be heard over the TV - not anymore!
The ability to serve content from 4 drives in a single 5.25" bay is great. After all - who uses CD's anymore? It makes drive swap- outs easier and this particular model also supports 2.5" drives up to 15mm so useful for the higher capacity 2.5" drives out there.
The only reason I have given this 4 stars for value is, whilst it's a great product it is also a little on the pricey side, now I have 3 units that's £220 just in these alone! Still, they have proved their worth and say with confidence they will continue to do so for years.

If you are after a high-quality 4-bay storage cage, this is it.I bought this with the Icy Dock MB994IPO-3SB (Two-drive + Slim-ODD bay) and as I mentioned on my review of that product, the price is a little on the high side, but you do get a high-quality product if space-optimization is your thing.
Similarly, this is the SATA/SAS unit, and if like me you only want to use SATA drives with this, just plug the SATA cables in to the "PRI" socket, leaving the "2ND" socket empty. If you later have a need for SAS, provided you have the SAS drives and a SAS controller, there is nothing stopping you from swapping SATA drives for SAS drives, and connecting up your SAS controller.
It comes with 16 screws for the drives, and screws for mounting in your case. I should note that my Corsair Carbide Air 540 has a screw-less quick-release mechanism, and can confirm that the 540's quick-release does not cause any problems with the insertion or removal of the drive trays. I can't say the same for any other type of case mind. If you don't have quick-release (or your quick release causes problems with drive-tray removal or insertion) only use the screws that come with the cage: using others might be too long and stop you from easily removing the drive trays.
It is a little on the expensive side, but you are paying for a high quality cage that will function well in to the future for you.

build quality goodThe frames are of good quality. The screw holes seem to be exact as there were no difficulties slotting the (mounted) drives into the built-in SATA sockets. All the screws you need are provided - no hassle to get everything assembled.
The fans are noisy (seem to be noisier than the CPU fan itself).
