DiMarzio pickupsThe Steve Vai Signature Premium JEM77P delivers incredible power and voicings thanks in part to the DiMarzio Gravity Storm and Evolution pickups. The Gravity Storms pickup delivers a fat, warm and rich sound in the neck position, whilst the bridge offers a rather sharper, more aggressive voice. Switching over to the middle Evolution single-coil sits somewhere nicely in the middle ground.
Gravity Storm pickups were designed for Steve Vai as the next step in his pickup evolution. The pickups are named after a song on his album, Steve Vai: The Story of Light. Steve described the sound he wanted from his new Gravity Storm™ Bridge Model pickup as “a thundering cloud of ice cream”. He didn’t say what flavour he likes, but these have both bite and sweetness.
