Hot-Swap and Hot-Plug vs Hot-Replaceable

In the recent past, replacing an NVMe SSD meant powering down the entire host platform. More recent solutions may employ “Hot-Replaceable” technology; the ability to recognize drives added for specific tasks. For example, unused SSDs already connected to the controller may be used to rebuild an array in some scenarios. However, the system must be rebooted in order for the operating system to recognize the hardware changes.

?The SSDS7580B represents a major breakthrough for NVMe-based storage applications. Its Hot-Plug and Hot-Swap capability works exactly like you expect it to. Like a conventional SAS RAID solution, administrators can now add or remove NVMe SSDs and arrays on the fly, as necessity demands. The SSD7580B will notify the system of any changes in real time; the host system can remain active throughout the procedure.

Versatile Cabling Options

The SSD7580B’s Hot-Plug capability works with a variety of industry standard connectors – not just SFF-8639, which is employed directly by U.2 media. We offer a selection of PCIe Gen4 capable cabling accessories capable of supporting hot-swappable storage configurations, including SFF-8643 connections and SFF08611 Oculink backplanes. This allows the SSD7580B to support any industry standard U.2 or M.2 NVMe SSD.

Easily Hosts One or More RAID Arrays

The SSD7580B is capable of supporting one or more RAID 0, 1 or 10 arrays, mixed RAID configurations such as a RAID 0 alongside a RAID 1 array, or a combination of arrays and single disks.

Supports Bootable or Data-only Storage Configurations: In addition, the SSD7580B is capable of hosting bootable RAID arrays and single SSDs for Windows and Linux-based platforms.

Safely Migrate SSDs or RAID Configurations with Online Array Roaming

The SSD7580B’s Online Array Roaming capability simplifies upgrade and replacement procedures, as customers can migrate SSDs from one controller to another, without having to start from scratch or recover an array.

The controller is also capable of recognizing arrays created with other SSD7000 and SSD7500 series controllers, even if the SSDs are moved to different ports.

Hyper Cooling Solution Ensures Sustained Gen 4 Transfer Performance

Maximizing Gen4 NVMe storage performance without the proper implementation of modern cooling apparatus is a risky proposition. This is especially true for Gen4 configurations. PCIe 4.0 devices and NVMe SSDs generate considerable heat under heavy load. To combat the threat of overheating, SSD7580B controller employ a completely new, ground-up redesign of our proven NVMe cooling system.

HighPoint’s Low-Noise Hyper-Cooling solution enables the SSD7580B controller to function optimally within the recommended temperature ranges, even under sustained I/O, by combining an anodized aluminium heat sink with an ultra-durable, near-silent fan, and high-conductivity thermal pad. This innovative, ultra- efficient cooling system rapidly transfers waste- heat away from critical controller componentry, without introducing unwanted distraction into your work environment.

Comprehensive NVMe RAID Management

The SSD7580B includes comprehensive suite of graphical and command-line based management and monitoring tools suitable for administrators of any experience level.

The WebGUI is a simple, intuitive graphical user interface designed to work with all modern Web Browsers. It is equipped with Wizard-like quick configuration menus as well as a suite of advanced tools for expert administrators.

The CLI (Command Line Interface) is a powerful, text-only interface designed ideal for seasoned administrators or platforms that do not utilize graphical operating systems. It can be operated via a standard Linux terminal or Windows command prompt.

SHI (Storage Health Inspector), a feature of the WebGUI, allows administrators to instantly check the operating status of storage devices in real-time via SMART technology, including temperature, voltage and TBW (Total Bytes Written) values. TBW tracking in particular, is essential for maintaining the long-term health of NVMe storage configurations. NVMe media have finite write capability; once the TBW threshold has been reached, the NVMe SSD should be replaced to avoid the risk of a write failure. The SSD7580B’s native hot-plug and hot-swap capability enables administrators to replace NVMe while the system remains active.
