The balanced cable, when used with the Ananda gives you more headroom than you will ever need, with improved dynamic detail compared to the single ended output, delivering almost double the voltage to the headphones. The HFM series Zen Can has a built in fully analogue (and hence zero latency) EQ setting specifically for Hifiman Headphones. Many models (HE400s, Edition XS, Ananada & Arya especially) have a similar slight dip in the frequency response between 1 & 3KHz, compared to our target curve for headphones, thats widely accepted as an ideal target for studio headphones and the Zen Can targets this directly.

With the EQ enabled, the tonal balance is about as close to perfect for the studio as you are going to get at zero latency, We thoroughly recommend it. If you do have other headphones and want to use the amp with them, it is possible to disable this EQ setting for that purpose.

This custom ActivEQ setting is expertly tuned across the entire frequency response curve to bring out the best in these already remarkable headphones.

four gain settingsThe ZEN CAN Signature HFM has four gain settings in six dB steps – 0dB, 6dB, 12dB and 18db. iFi have called this PowerMatch.

This enables the amp to precisely suit the connected headphones. Unity gain (0dB) is useful to ensure low noise with sensitive in-ear monitors, while the higher gain settings make the most of tougher headphone loads, delivering excellent dynamic headroom.

balanced, symmetrical dual-mono designThe ZEN CAN Signature HFM’s circuitry is a balanced, symmetrical dual-mono design – a topology usually reserved for high-end headphone amps – with a number of key elements trickled down from the discrete Class A circuitry developed for iFi’s flagship headphone amplifier, the Pro iCAN.

Key components have been upgraded to enhance performance in line with the improvements made to the ZEN CAN Signature HFM, including the use of Panasonic OS-CON and Elna Silmic II capacitors.

Force of natureThe amp provides superb drive capability, delivering 1600mW (7.2V) into 32 ohms from the single-ended output, with 15V+ available to loads of 600 ohms or more through the balanced output.
