Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P, AMD 970 / SB950, S AM3+, DDR3, SATA3 6Gbps, 2-Way CrossFire, Realtek LAN, USB 3.0, ATX is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement board My ageing ASUS board started having memory controller problems, but I wasn't ready for a full system upgrade; this board fitted all my old parts; CPU, RAM, etc. and allowed me to keep my desktop running sweetly. Windows 10 handled the swapout with ease (although there is a bit of a trick to enabling re-activation without paying money - but you can Google that!) Good value for money, nice board and easy driver installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well with Linux, USB3 is fast I've used Gigabyte boards for years, and they've always given excellent service. I like the layout of the board - even with my 2-slot-hogging video card, there are two PCI Express ports and two PCI slots free along with the extra PCI Express 2.0 slot. This board is well supported in Linux (I use Debian stable - currently version 8 'Jessie') - even the USB 3.0 onboard ports - but you need to add a simple line to GRUB to get it to work: here's how. When you're installing Linux, go into the BIOS and enable iommu in the uefi. (This lets the USB 2.0 slots and the network interface work.) Install as normal. After the install, as root edit /etc/default/grub, and look for the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" Add between the quotes "iommu=soft" [so you now have the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="iommu=soft"] Save the changes. Again as root, run the command 'update-grub'. If you run MInt or Ubuntu, open a terminal and run the same commands prefaced with sudo [sudo gedit /etc/default/grub for instance, to use gedit to edit the file]. Restart the computer, go into the BIOS and disable iommu. Hey presto! All the USB ports, network, sound etc. will work. I'm getting about 70 MiB/S transferring large files to and from an external USB 3.0 drive, as against about 120 MiB/S transferring between internal SATA drives. Oh, I'm a happy bunny!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent mobo for gaming/multimedia PCs with fast FX CPUs :) Works great with both my FX8320 and FX6350 (which happens to be better for gaming than the 8 core which is abit confusing) iv heard of less cores being best for games anyway as some just dont support all them cores. Anyway this motherboard is quality as usual with Gigabyte fast SATA3 system as someone else said I believe, I have a SATA3 SSD and mine boots within less than 5seconds (win7 startup animation doesnt even get to half way) to complete loading done on desktop. Onboard sound is OK but iv just upgraded to a Audigy FX which certainly sounds alot better. Just wish the PCI-E slots were in different places and maybe well if the 2 PCI were another 2 PCI-E as my network card, sound card and R9 are VERY CLOSE, there would be alot more room and alot LESS HEAT. Anyway on the whole this is a great motherboard the UEFI dual bios its full of features, in hindsight I would of spent the extra 20-30 on the UD3P model which seems to be similar but a higher spec. ONE THING this board ISNT TOO GOOD for OCing your CPU altho I have my 8GB of Corsair 1600 LP black set at 1866MHZ (Max speed CPU can support) and everything is fine and also my GPU OCed. Just CPU wise its not really an OCing board. Overall a very stable very affordable choice for someone looking to build either a budget AMD gaming machine or something a little different but Id say this is defo for 'multi-media' type applications.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple part for a simple job There's nothing really special about this motherboard. Only reason to buy it is because it's so cheap! That's not to say it's bad though. I bought this for the FX 8320 and so far it seems to run extremely well. No problems with the motherboard - it does exactly what it's supposed to.

Questions & Answers

Would the Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P work with an FX-8320, a Gigabyte GTX 660 OC and a Corsair CX430M?

According to the Gigabyte site it should be OK with the FX-8320, but I can't find any other info about it anywhere else online. All results I get seem to be for the GA-970A-DS3, which doesn't support the FX-8320.

does this board support crossfire and can i use a radeon 7950 with it

Asked by: ormey
Unfortunately, this motherboard does not support Crossfire. You will have to get a more expensive motherboard to get that feature. If you look on the specs, Scan make it very easy to tell whether the motherboard is crossfire supported or not. (just use cntl+f to find it) I hope this helped.

Will this motherboard work with the Corsair Memory XMS3 4GB DDR3 1600 MHz RAM? I can't find it on the compatible ram sheet from Gigabyte.

Asked by: Fozzie
Yes! I've actually got the exact same RAM module installed so I know it works :)

which revision of this board is this?

So I just bought this motherboard and it should arrive tomorrow, but whilst browsing the gigabyte website for up to date bios and drivers I noticed that there are at least 3 revisions of this board, so which one will actually be delivered? Personally from a purely aesthetic point of view I prefer the v1.0 shown in the pictures in black and grey as opposed to v3.0 in gigabyte blue and white, but logic would dictate a newer revision would be a better purchase.
Asked by: donnyrich
Board arrived and it's v1.0 (black and grey as shown). Its a good looking board, tho as someone else mentioned the heatsimks are poorly attached and rattle around. Comes with just 2 sata cables, no crossfire or sli bridge (granted the board doesn't actually support sli until nvidia drops the requirement for a minimum 8x pci-e slot), io shield and the obligatory manuals/drivers disk. The bios is outdated and needed flashing to the newest f2h but had no installation or compatibility issues with an amd 4300 and corsair memory, save that I had to manually set the memory speed to 1600mhz as the board defaults to the lowest ddr3 setting. Overall it seems like a fairly decent board for how cheap it was.
