Turn Your Favourite IEMs Wireless!FiiO's super-handy UTWS17 gives your existing IEMs a proper wireless upgrade, combining a dedicated Bluetooth DAC/amp with an ear-hook design that keeps the cable out of the equation. It uses Qualcomm's QCC5181 Bluetooth platform alongside dual AK4333 DACs, with support for high-resolution codecs including aptX Lossless, LDAC, LHDC V5 and aptX Adaptive. There's considerably more power here than you'd expect from something this small. The integrated amplifier can deliver up to 85mW + 85mW into 32Ω, giving the UTWS17 enough headroom for a wide range of IEMs while maintaining a low output impedance of under 0.9Ω at 32Ω.
Compatibility is refreshingly broad thanks to the interchangeable connectors. The UTWS17 supports both MMCX and 0.78mm 2-pin IEM connections, with both connector types supplied, so you can use the same wireless adapter with different earphones rather than being locked into one connection standard. The ear hooks themselves weigh around 8g each, with physical buttons for playback and volume control, plus multipoint Bluetooth for connecting to two devices. There's also a transparency mode, game mode and adjustable EQ/PEQ through the FiiO Control app, giving you plenty of scope to tailor the setup to how you actually use it.
For calls, the UTWS17 uses a dual-microphone noise-reduction system, while the built-in battery provides more than seven hours of playback under SBC conditions. The charging case adds further charges and features a display showing the battery status of both the case and ear hooks. In short, the UTWS17 is a smart way of keeping the IEMs you already like while ditching the cable. With high-resolution Bluetooth, proper DAC/amp hardware, interchangeable connectors and a genuinely useful set of controls, it's considerably more than a basic Bluetooth adapter.
