Hybrid IEMs with a 10mm carbon dynamic driverFiiO JH5 packs a serious hybrid driver configuration into a compact, high-precision IEM, combining a 10mm carbon-based dynamic driver with four custom balanced armatures. Rather than simply throwing multiple drivers into the same enclosure, FiiO separates the drivers into three independent acoustic chambers, giving each section of the frequency range a clearly defined job.
The 10mm carbon-based dynamic driver handles the low frequencies, using a fast-moving diaphragm designed for controlled transients and low distortion. Two custom balanced armatures take care of the mids and highs, while a further pair is dedicated to the ultra-high frequencies. The crossover between the dynamic and BA drivers is carefully tuned around 2.8kHz, helping the different driver types work together smoothly.
The JH5's acoustic design draws on ideas from FiiO's higher-end hybrid IEMs, while the high-precision 3D-printed shell and zinc alloy faceplate give it a properly substantial feel. It's supplied with a four-strand, 392-wire silver-plated copper cable and is available in Black or Silver. At this price point, the JH5 makes a strong case for hybrid IEMs: plenty of driver technology, a considered acoustic layout and a properly detachable cable, without pushing into serious high-end money.
