Cat 5 Snake & C.A.S.T. Breakout Box
Cranborne Audio - N22

Standalone Cable Management ToolThe Cranborne Audio N22 is a standalone 4 channel Cat 5 snake and advanced audio distribution system using C.A.S.T. Essentially, the N22 replaces 4 balanced XLR cables with 1 shielded Cat 5e, Cat 6, and Cat 7 cable over distances of up to 100m. Featuring the C.A.S.T. system, N22 distributes audio around studios or stages by repurposing the internal copper wires of shielded Cat 5e, Cat 6, and Cat 7 cable to send balanced analogue audio between other C.A.S.T. enabled products - like another N22.
Studios already built around a Cranborne Audio interface can use N22’s to transform their studio space. Put the N22 in a live room and audio connected to N22 will appear directly at the interface's inputs ready recording. The same C.A.S.T. connection can also send a stereo monitor mix from the interface directly to N22’s balanced outputs.
At A Glance
• Standalone 4-channel Cat 5 snake and C.A.S.T. audio distribution system
• Transmit 4 channels of balanced analogue audio over distances of up to 100 meters
• Replaces 4 balanced XLR cables with 1 Cat 5 cable using C.A.S.T.
• Uses Cat 5e, Cat 6, or Cat 7 Ethernet cable
Less Cable Clutter
Improved audio qualityUsing a shielded Cat 5e, Cat 6, and Cat 7 cable instead of 4 XLRs allows you to reduce cable clutter in your studio but also distribute audio around studios or stages using affordable, readily available network cabling and achieve the highest sonic results simultaneously due to their strict design standards.
In addition, the N22 is fully passive and doesn't require external power in order to transport audio at the highest quality level over long distances. Each C.A.S.T. connection on a Cranborne Audio product features unique optimisation to ensure that the maximum signal strenght is transmitted over shielded Cat 5, Cat 6, and Cat 7 cables for distances of up to 100m(330ft) without high-end roll-off and with very low-crosstalk.

C.A.S.T. ExpanderConnect N22 (or N22H) into 500R8/500ADAT's C.A.S.T. Input connectors and then mic/line sources connected to N22’s inputs are sent straight to the interface's inputs ready for recording via C.A.S.T. Meanwhile, a stereo monitor mix generated by 500R8/500ADAT is carried down the same C.A.S.T. connection and directly into N22’s dual ¼” jack and XLR line outputs.

Standalone Cat5 SnakeReplace impractical and expensive analogue multicore systems by using two N22's to send and receive balanced analogue audio between two locations. Connect N22 to your current audio interface and distribute audio into the vocal booth, into the live room, or temporarily into the hallway using a single shielded Cat 5e, Cat 6, or Cat 7 cable cable.
Phantom Power
easy transferThe C.A.S.T. system is fully-able to transfer 48v, phantom power from a preamp to N22/N22H to power condenser microphones and DI boxes. Cat 5e, Cat 6, and Cat 7 cables are created to transfer much higher voltages and current than 48v, so one C.A.S.T. cable can easily transfer up to 4 separate phantom power lines in your studio or live space.

Phantom Power With 3rd Party Preamp
or Audio InterfaceIf you're using an audio interface or 3rd party preamp, just connect one N22 to your preamp's inputs, the other N22 to your microphone, and activate 48v on your preamp! Now you can seamlessly power and record your sources through a single C.A.S.T. connection!

Phantom Power With
500R8, 500ADAT, Camden EC2If you're using a 500R8, 500ADAT, or Camden EC2, simply connect the C.A.S.T. inputs of the device to the C.A.S.T. output of N22, engage 48v on your preamps, and you're ready to record!
Headphone Distribution

a crucial toolN22's bigger brother, N22H features all of the same C.A.S.T. functions as N22 but with the addition of aa reference-quality, reference-grade headphone amplifier strapped across its outputs. Utilising a design based off the flagship 500R8, N22H's headphone amplifier is a vital tool for musicians during tracking, or engineers during mixing/mastering to drive their headphones with plenty of clean power. Connect N22 and N22H together and you can then use the C.A.S.T. system to deploy headphone amplification where it is needed in your studio - right beside the musician.
With a flat Frequency Response from 0.8Hz to above 250kHz and ultra-low distortion (0.0009% THD+N, 100 kOhm load), N22H can power headphones with clean, transparent power during critical listening, mixing, and mastering. You also get enough power (up to 950mW per-ear) to drive headphones at high-volumes during tracking - ideal for loud drummers! N22H can also be powered using the included 9V DC power supply or a 9v battery for up to 10 hours of headphone amplification when nearby power isn’t available.
More C.A.S.T. Possibilities

additional processingAny Cranborne Audio product that features C.A.S.T. connectors can be used in part of an incredible system. Connect the Camden EC2’s C.A.S.T. OUT port to an N22 or N22H and you can send Camden EC2’s preamps directly to the interface's inputs ready for additional processing and recording - allowing you to position Camden EC2 in the live room whilst recording its preamp output in the control room using the N22's outputs.
You can also connect Camden EC2’s C.A.S.T. IN port to another N22 or N22H - so you can easily relocate Camden EC2’s preamp inputs to a remote location such as a vocal booth, live room, hallway, or reverb chamber using shielded Cat 5e, Cat 6, and Cat 7 cable as cheap, high-quality, analogue multicore.
