Chassis Airflow
Chassis Airflow
Date Issued: 20th Oct 2008

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Watercooling for the PC has been around for years in some form or another, for at least as long as Scan have been in business, with basic physics defining why you want to use it. That means for air cooling, to cope with increasing temperature in the heatsink you need to move the air across it faster. That is why thermostatically controlled fans in your PC will turn faster the hotter something gets.

Cooler Master CM Storm Trooper Black Performance Full Tower Computer Chassis with Side Window, USB 3.0 w/o PSU is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile and Strong Fantastic case, loads of different configurations are possible so will fit a whole heap of different stuff inside. Using a Corsair h100i V2 and there is plenty of room for the radiator. Loads of space on the back panel too so you can keep the main cavity free or wires. Only niggle is the feet. Had this case some years now, and when moving the computer and going to LAN events, over the life of the case I've broken 6 feet. The thin plastic that goes around the screw snaps. Really annoying.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great features, minor niggle. This case does exactly what you want it to do. Holds all your components and cools them quietly. Plenty of tool-less drive bays that most will never use! The drawer at the front is an especially neat touch. Wasn't massively impressed with the default side mounting of drive bays. Re-configuring was a straight forward process, apart from the niggle I ran into. Every single unused screw hole requires a ridiculous amount of force, it feels like you're stripping threads. I wasn't, because I kept checking! I can only assume that the holes where made prior to the finishing process and not protected, resulting in smaller than intended threads until you drive the coating off. Other than that, great case!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything the HAF X wasn't This case is a vast improvement over the HAF X (my previous two). Dust filters throughout, full rubber grommets and a good carrying handle. Two configurable drive cages to hold eight 3.5 drives in addition to a separate cage to hold a further four SSD's (you'll need a few SATA ports to fill this case). Cooler Master have listened to their customers and this is an outstanding case. Note this case does not have any castors like the HAF X

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Case This case far exceeded my expectations of it's quality and general looks in person. Brought for a new computer build, the case has plenty of room to fit everything, this is coming from the CM Storm Enforcer case. Only issue I had was fitting my H105 CPU cooler on the top mount with the intended fixtures but this was because I was Maximus VII Formula's armour extrudes further than I thought it would. However, this case has an extra set of mounts a bit further out that made it fit perfectly! All in all, a great and beautiful case with plenty of room for wiring at the back (as long as it's not too messy), HDD/SSDs, disc drives and comes with more than plenty optional screws for future upgrades. Also the draw compartment is the best idea ever for storing spare parts. One minor thing I dislike about the case is that the front fans that come with the case are dim compared to other LED fans I've used before.

Questions & Answers

Does this case support E-ATX boards??

Will this case support E-ATX mother boards and will the Asus Strix GTX-980 card fit in it?
Asked by: TheBeast
While a bit late for your question, just to let people know, an ASUS Strix 1080 fits with a little room to spare.
