Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K (Body Only)

Small, MightyFrom the shadows of Australia, Blackmagic Design have announced the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. An alternative to the 4K version, this camera brings all the great features that were found in the smaller 4K variant, but with one major new feature.

Same body, new specsWith a huge 6144x3456 Super 35 Sensor, housed in the same shape body as the 4K, this camera is made to shoot cinematic images with a shallower depth of field.

This is due to the change in lenses it takes, which is now the larger EF mount instead of Micro Four Thirds.

Familiar Feeling The Pocket Camera is as it sounds: tiny. This gives you far more portability, allowing you to get more unique shots on projects or even when in tight studio spaces. Just because it's small, doesn't mean it isn't packing, as Blackmagic have fitted it with a 5" screen, 4 built in microphones and recorders. There's also all the buttons that you'd need, letting quickly get a hold of framing, focus, audio and file management.

Vlogs to Cinema Ideal for shooting quick vlogs, web videos and expos or corporate videos, as well as producing high quality video when shooting sports or independent films, the footage is captured in RAW format and backed by Blackmagic's colour science. This allows the Pocket Cinema Camera to rival expensive cameras that cost thousands, while being easily mixed into projects using other cameras.

Higher Quality Stills While not a photography camera, the 6K will now take stills up to 21.2 megapixels, so you can either use these to do test grades, continuity tracking or use the full uncompressed DNG file as a print.

Always be ready The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K comes with Dual ISO up to 25, 600, making the images less grainy the higher the ISO goes. As you adjust it, it'll automatically readjust the secondary ISO to ensure that the picture is always of top quality. This is ideal for night shoots, as you'll be able to make do with minimal lighting, even in the dark.

HDR Ready With 13 stops of Dynamic Range between the lightest and darkest points of the image, the Pocket 6K can bring in all the delectable detail that would want to be seen, regardless of how light or dark the image has gotten.

Slow-Mo, Anamorphic By windowing the sensor, you'll be able to shoot higher frame rates for action or sports at a maximum resolution of 2.8K (17:9) in 120FPS. You'll also be able to utilise your anamorphic lenses and work in true anamorphic (3:5) in 3.7K, 60FPS (3624x3020).

Similar to URSA Mini Pro The Pocket Camera also packs the same Blackmagic OS as the much larger, bulkier URSA Mini. Get access to all the settings you want with the simple touchscreen interface.

It's not a stripped down, portable version, but the full thing, so going from the URSA to this is incredibly simple.

EF Mount Lenses Popular, actively available and absolutely stunning, the EF lens mount is new to the 6K and all your existing lenses will work on this camera too, so you can pretty much get going straight away if you're already invested in the ecosystem.

Timecode, XLR But what about accessories? Well, there's mounting points, a mini XLR input with phantom power and for those working in a multicam production, you’ll be happy to know that Timecode is embedded within the 3.5mm headphone jack to save space. When working in DaVinci Resolve 16.1, you’ll have no issues syncing video together as the software will do it for you, so multiple cameras can move around without worrying about losing sync with each other during the shoot.

Storage You don't even need to carry about large external storage options like before, as the Pocket Cinema Camera comes with a USB-C port, giving you the full breadth of its massive bandwidth capabilities. This allows you to connect portable SSDs, flash drives and pen drives to get even more recording time. But, as with most creators, you’ll want SD cards and the 6K supports UHS-II and CFast 2.0.

It combines editing, colour correction, audio post and visual effects all in one, meaning you won't have to dip in and out of programs to get the result you want.

Work with Blackmagic RAW RAW files are massive, taking up large quantities of space not only on your storage, but also within the processor, causing things to slow down. After a few years of tinkering, Blackmagic Design have engineered a new, updated and modern alternative to the RAW format, now available to be used in DaVinci Resolve 16.
