ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, Intel Z170, S 1151, DDR4, SATAe, M.2 (PCIe/SATA), 2-Way SLi/3-Way CrossFire, USB 3.1A+C, ATX is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Asus can not make a stable BIOS fan controller. I've had multiple Asus motherboard, both AMD and Intel, they cannot make BIOS fan controllers. It's "fan test", to see what each fan can do, thinks my 140mm fan can not go below 50% speed, the previous bios allowed it to go down to 20%... The plastic shroud rattles at certain fan RPMs, this took me days to figure out, I resolved it by putting gorilla tape on it. I shouldn't have to do that...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Premium price - Below average performance/quality They managed to break XMP configuration after v1701 BIOS. So if you have for example Corsair CMK16GX4M2A2400C14, won't work after 1701. There are plenty people having this issue, mentioned on official forums many many times but there's no response from Asus. Asus Suite can't read CPU Fan, therefore it's useless. CPU fan speed looks fine on BIOS but not on the software they provide. I can't fine tune anything. Other fan controls *sometimes* work. BIOS is really slow. Sometimes it stops responding for 10-15 seconds. If the price was somewhere between £80-£120 I think I'd give four or five stars but Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero does not worth £200. Also if you're excited about that LED lights on the board, just beware that your graphics card will block most of these lights. So they're pretty much pointless as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fine motherboard, lots of features Build quality is good, lots of features (AI Suite is really nice) performance is standard. Supports lots of new technogies, USB3.1 and M.2. Only gripe is with the shroud over the SupremeFX section of the motherboard. It effectively obscures one of the motherboard screws, makes it hard to remove the screw fully when removing the motherboard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Board - Easy Setup, Highly Recommended I've built about 20 PCs now for myself and clients, I would regard myself as competent rather than an expert. Purchased the ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero for a new build build for a client as the base for a new Skylake system intended for video editing & gaming. The board layout is excellent, even with large GPUs like the 980Ti on it. Everything is still accessible - TIP...if you have a large graphics card it's much easier to connect the SATA cables to the board first - if the card is long it may "cover" the SATA ports as far as getting your fingers in there is concerned, but there is plenty of clearance once they are in. The BIOS is awesome - for beginners to overclocking the bios can basically do everything for you to make a stable, fast system automatically. If you want to get really into it then you can modify just about everything - and there is plenty of information, tutorials and support available. The board itself is solid, feels sturdy and gives you confidence when slotting in the RAM for example - and four slots means that you can put a LOT of lovely fast DDR4 RAM onto it. My only criticism is that with the Corsair H110GTX and the Corsair RMi850 PSU taking up one USB 2.0 header each for Corsair Link - there is no spare header for the front panel USBs. There is an easy solution however - LN32881 gives you all the headers you need. A really easy build, easy setup - this board will go as far as you want...and looks cool doing it too! I highly recommend it, very glad I chose this on the advice of the staff from Scan for this build/budget. It's been in constant use for two weeks now since the build and no problems whatsoever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must be the best motherboard I've ever had Am using this Motherboard witha Skylake i7-6700k processor and 32Gb Corsair memory with a SSd hard drive installed. It's so easy to tweak the setting and make it fly through any program I'm using.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Motherboard I just can't fault it. Looks great, well built, and the UEFI is very intuitive. The bundled software is equally good. Overclocking is also pretty easy. There are plenty of connections too which will allow for further expandability in the future. I can't see anything bad to say about it so far!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent bit of kit! I upgraded my gaming rig a couple of months ago and decided on this board given the great reviews. As soon as I took it out of the box, it felt like a solid and well-made board. It even smelled of quality! To be honest, there's not a heap to say about a motherboard really but what I can say is the build quality is top notch, building with it was easy and fun, the features this board has are fantastic and the software bundled with it is brilliant! As usual, Asus have put out an amazing product.

can this be water cooled and what kind of water cooler do you recommend for this going with intel core i7 6700k?

cpu: intel core i7 6700k
Asked by: rasul972
My cooling solution is Corsair H110i GTX Performance Hydro CPU Cooler - LN65696 This PC build is used intensively for Hi-Res video, design and occasional gaming and this little beaut of a cooler keeps the CPU beautifully cooled. On a benchmark run the 6700K at 100% usage at 4.7Ghz for 20 minutes hit a MAXIMUM temperature of 69°C.
