AKG K702 Reference Studio Headphones - Open Back, Over Ear is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommended Great set of headphones for the studio. Comfy, with a nice flat response. And for the price, these are a no brainer for anyone thinking about getting them. You won’t regret your choice

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent sound quality I'm not an audiophile and I couldn't tell you how good the mids, lows or whatever are. However the difference between these other headphones I've had is night and day. The sound quality is excellent.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Subjective sound AKG 702 looks like a 1950's milk crate on top of your head, the leather? headstrap is uncomfortable if you have very short hair like a skinhead or a shaven head and I mean uncomfortable within minutes and you might find (like I did) that you will be constantly adjusting the headphone because of the annoying leather headstrap. The ear pads are quite hard and not that comfortable but maybe after many hours of use they might soften a touch? The human ear is a very complex organ and the hearing system is a very complex one and superb by design but it is just a conduit for sound to enter into the brain and it is the amazing design of the human brain that actually makes sense of depth and space and everything else. Headphones just have a manufacturer signature, all the snobbery surrounding headphones by some reviewers is exactly that snobbery and pseudo science, sound is all in your head literally. They sound ok but no better than a £25 pair of other headphones I have used, and to think that some claimed (on some sites) that the AKG 702 once had a recommended retail price of £300, what a joke and there is no way they are worth that kind of money. I do not recommend this headphone even for £100.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great entry into high-end audio This is my first pair of high-quality headphones, and the first I've spent more than £30 on. The clarity and detail is great, to the point that in classical pieces you can hear the musicians picking up their instruments and turning pages in preparation to play. The bass is accurate but not as strong as some may like owing to it's neutral and open-backed nature. Due to them being open-backed they also have very good imaging, and orchestral pieces in particular allow you to hear where sounds are being played from. They work on portable devices, but even using a basic amp is a night-and-day difference. If you want an affordable entry in to higher-quality headphones, these are for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A true statement from AKG The clarity is exceptional. I am not a basshead, although even if I were I would have no problem with it; going right down to 10kHz it sustains itself and is both punchy and we'll controlled, with a lack of any roll off. Highs are crisp, and whilst it sometimes occurs to me that vocals are a little veiled by an artificial curtain, this has slowly lapsed as I have broken them in more. I use these along with a pair of Beyerdynamic DT880s and both pairs complement each other beautifully. Snap these up whilst you can at this price! As for Scan, I was very impressed and even with the cheapest delivery option it still took a mere two days; I would use them again without hesitation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good sound, perhaps not the most comfortable I got these for mixing as they're open-backed after reading more than one amazingly stellar review! They do sound excellent so top marks there. However, they are not as comfortable as I thought they'd be. Could be my head, ears or both, and perhaps I haven't quite found the best position but I find I'm fiddling with them a lot of the time, trying to make them more comfortable so a definite one star loss for that, I'm afraid.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Go for 701 Having a K701, my expectations for K702 were high and I have to say that despite the good price from Scan, I am disappointed with the set. The craftsmanship of K701 (Made in Austria) and the materials used are much, much better than what you'll find on K702 (Made in China). While having a removable cable is a bonus on these, the overall quality just doesn't match the older model. Even though the sound is very similar, I find myself reaching for the old, grubby headphones much more often than the new set. For a small difference in price, K701 is still a better value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality and value at discounted price Caution: I am no expert on headphones and am a long way from being an audiophile ... The K702s (and, for that matter, the Q701s) are solidly built and very comfortable. Very good 'out of the box' in all those ways 'people' talk about: highs, mids, lows, all distinct and musical, separately and collectively; soundstage and imaging very good and detail is impressive, without the sound becoming harsh. In these respects, I find them very well balanced, for me; and I expect all this to get better as the weeks roll by, assuming they 'burn in' (I've come to believe, though many do not, in 'burn in'!). "You pays yer money" and I really don't know if they would represent great value at full RRP of £350. At about a third of that price, however, they seem a bargain.

AKG K702

Are the AKG K702 headphones made in Austria? How long is the cord length? thanks Phil
Asked by: PhilD
I believe some are made in Austria and some are made in China. The ones I bought from Scan are made in China. From the reviews I've read people say there's no difference in quality.
