Akai’s line of sampling drum machines stretch back to the birth of the MPC line all the way back in the middle of the 1980’s. The Akai MPX 8 takes all that experience and distils it into a low cost controller and sample playback device that makes an ideal introduction to the line for those producers who already have a computer based studio to work in.
The MPX8 at its heart is an 8 pad sample playback machine with the ability to load additional sample banks from an SD card. You can of course load in any samples you wish, which makes this a superb and ultraportable solution for both for drum programing in the studio or even playing along live with other performers.
The 8 backlit pads are highly responsive and fully velocity sensitive making them perfect for playing in or programming both rhythmic and melodic parts. The MPX 8 comes preloaded with a handful of sound banks to get you rolling, with a selection of classic drum sounds and some synth patches too.
The big advantage of this controller however is that it can be expanded via an optional add in SD/SDHC card of up to 32GB in size, which can store and allow you to make use of any samples you wish. To help you with all this the MPX8 comes with an MPX Editor tool for both the PC and Mac, that will allow you to edit and manage all of your own personal sound banks making it fully customizable to your own taste and requirements.
Along with the headphone and stereo ¼” jack outputs, the controller offers midi in and out via direct cables as well as midi over USB to make it into a great all round controller solution, however you wish to use it.
