PSUs (Power Supply Units)
PSUs (Power Supply Units)
Date Issued: 4th Jul 2011

Let's face it, power-supply units (PSUs) are boring. Presented in what's usually a mundane box spitting cables from one end, this is a product that's neither aesthetically pleasing nor technically interesting to the majority of self-builders.

80 Plus certification
Date Issued: 18th Nov 2010

Conceived back in 2004 and brought to market just a year later, the 80 PLUS initiative is one of many standards introduced in an effort to increase energy efficiency in modern technology. Targeting computer power supplies, it awards PSUs that are able to achieve an energy efficiency of over 80 per cent at varying workloads and a power factor of 0.9 or more at 100 per cent load.

600W Corsair SF600 High Performance, 80 PLUS Gold, Full Modular, SLI/CrossFire, Single Rail, 50A +12V, EPS 12V, 92mm Fan is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very small! This sfx psu has ample wattage at a very small and compact size. It's very quiet with the fan only turning on whilst under a moderate load. Nice understated design in either orientation. The only downside to this psu is the stiff cables, and they are also very short. Whilst they would work in a very small itx case they don't reach without extensions in fractal nano s which I use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ok but could be better for the price Slightly disappointing. The PSU itself is very good with usual Corsair quality and is quiet. These small form factor power supplies have better internal components so i expect to pay more but the the leads are not only very cheap in quality (with also no sleeved upgrade options yet) but the ATX MB lead is very short and even in my micro ITX case (InWin 901) had no chance of reaching the MB. So i had to spend another £10 on and extension lead. Not ideal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really excellent PSU I bought this PSU to use in conjunction with a Silverstone FT03B case. Whilst it does fit, I was mistaken in thinking the case required such small form-factor. My component selection antics aside, this PSU is exceptional. The modular cables allow for a very straightforward build, the cooling fan is whisper-silent (it actually switches off until a certain temperature threshold is reached), and it has been completely stable and consistent despite my system being left on for days at a time. I gave this a 5* for value due to the fact that it really is worth investing a little extra for something of this standard. I imagine this will last me for many builds to come.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing product; some flaws. This unit is an absolute beast. The component quality is high and despite being a Gold rated unit it's actually bordering on a Platinum efficiency. The build quality is what you'd expect from Corsair. It's extremely quiet to the point where I don't hear it at all over my other case fans. It's pretty much the perfect power supply for small form factor high powered build. The only negative I have are the Type-4 cables that it's supplied with. They're stiff. Really stiff. Trying to get these to route cleanly in a small space is next to impossible. Most of my build time was actually spent wrestling with these cables. Now everything is together and I won't be doing any major changes for a while it's not a problem, but just be aware that it will cause difficulty when building. Overall, fantastic product that I couldn't recommend more. Just be patient with cables; I hope Corsair offers some softer ones in the future.
