550W EVGA SuperNOVA G2 PSU, Fully Modular, 80PLUS Gold ATX, SLI/Crossfire Ready is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value and performance. Fully modular with sleeved cables [not individually sleeved but better than most units at this price point]. Silent, it's yet to spin up as I have the ECO setting on, why wouldn't you? Fan will only spin up when under load which I've yet to do as far as I'm aware, if it has spun I've not heard it and my PC is at my feet. Impressive for a 550watt PSU that's powering an ASUS Maximus IX Hero motherboard with i7-6700K, a GTX1060 GPU and a custom water cooled loop as well as RGB fans and LED strips. Plenty of cables including a second 2+6 pin GPU cable for SLI/Crossfire and particularly impressed with the length of the 8 pin mobo cable that made a not so straight route around my case to the board.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just bad luck. My first PC build, here's what the PSU is powering: Thermaltake Core V1 Mini-ITX i5 6600 Thermaltake Frio Silent 12 Gigabyte Phoenix WiFi Sapphire RX480+ OC 8GB Samsung 750 EVO 250GB 3.5" 2TB Seagate Barracuda Very well presented in the box. The bag for extra, unused cables was a nice addition too. The braided cables look amazing and will suit most builds. The PSU itself looks great with a textured, matte finish and subtle labels. It looks like a premium product. Gold Plus power rating at this price is great. ECO mode is a nice addition, although I have yet to try it. The fan is very quite and with my system pulling around 375W, it's not exactly being pushed to the max. I've had no issues with my replacement comes the bad bit. After building the system and reaching the BIOS with no issues, I started the windows install. After a few minutes, booting from a USB Disk Image, the PC shutoff, and wouldn't turn back on. The PSU just died. No warning and quite unexpected. It was RMA'd and in less than a week, I had a new one. Props go to Scan for the quick turn around. Again, no issues with my replacement. Obviously, there's a failure rate and it could've happened to anyone. If the 1st one hadn't died, it would have been full marks all around. Still very happy and would still recommend one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As described So far so good - easy to install, sufficient cables for my needs. Best of all the fan does not move until the power ramps up so almost a hybrid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best silent all-rounder I wanted a silent PC. I now have one thanks to this! Like "zero-RPM" GPU fans nowadays this one doesn't spin unless you reach a certain load (about 137W I believe with this model), so anything that isn't gaming, encoding or rendering and you can enjoy silence. When it does spin, it's still whisper quiet, I can't honestly hear it There is no coil whine or any other discernible electrical noise from it at all, coupled with the "allow fan stop" feature on my ASUS motherboard and the aforementioned zero-RPM mode on the GPU, the loudest thing in this room now is my cordless house phone's uninsulated loudspeaker hissing... First world problems. At the same time as being silent, this 550W supply is perfect for even dual GPU setups. If you want a pair of flagship GPU's and a 140W CPU, this will do fine, and just get the 750W if you plan on watercooled overclocking or need 4x 8pin PCIe power connectors. I'd personally skip over the 650W since it offers no more connectors than this one, unless you somehow need more than 550W but not for GPUs... You get a nice bag for all the modular wires, and plenty of them, handily a lone 6+2pin as well as a chained 6+2pin and 6pin, which gives all the options you need for some neater looking GPU wiring. It's a shame EVGA don't do a 450W Supernova or I'd get that, since my rig only draws at most ~300W using a 4.6GHz overclocked i7 4790K and a 1520MHz core overclocked GTX 980 Ti Lightning, but it's nice to have some wiggle room. This unit is pricey, but it's fully modular, silent with ECO mode on (why wouldn't you?) and has a 10 year warranty... Just get one and don't worry about PSU needs for the next decade, sorted!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top tier PSU! I'd like to start off saying I built an Athlon AMD FM2+ system back in 2013 which had a CX 500w bronze installed with it. Then in October of 2014 I upgraded to a Haswell i5 system (I actually got the MOBO and CPU off Scan too) then in early 2015 I installed an MSI GTX 970 4GB which is amazing but after a few months my CX 500w bronze started to make clunky noise when running so I decided it was unsafe to use any more (I knew I would have to replace in about 1-2year of having it). So I began searching online for a new PSU using forums and I found many people who gave me lots of good advice about different tiers of PSU and what I should be looking for. So I decided to get the EVGA SuperNova G2 550w Gold PSU. When I received it took me a bit to figure out I had to stick the big ATX cable that was split into two cables into the PSU and then the big large cable at the end into the MOBO. It powered up like a dream and I had the power saving mode clicked on which is a little switch on the PSU that disables the fan till the PSU requires cooling so basically when using the pc for general browsing and Hearthstone with Spotify music on the pc is super quiet. It only kicks the fan in after a few minutes of me playing a big demanding game and when the GPU requires more power. Now the main thing I really want to bring up is that one day while I was playing Fallout 4 my computer 'click' off instantly and I was puzzled so I began to trouble-shoot my parts and they all checked out fine. So I turned on the pc and I got a message from the PSU saying it had stopped a surge safely which surprised me and I was very thankful for. I found out it was my extension lead that was the cause so I replaced it. If I had the CX 500 in at that time It could of damaged a major component of my PC. That's why you buy a decent PSU to avoid these things. I hope this review helped anyone looking into this item. Regards

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid and quiet Good quiet PSU - the large fan really helps keeping down the fan speed and hence noise. Usual build quality EVGA is known for: solid, hefty and all black in colour (for those who care about aesthetics).

Questions & Answers

could this handle a gtx 980 and i5 4670k both with mid to high overclocks

Asked by: thesickness
I'm powering a GTX1060 Strix 6GB and an i7-6700K with this, no problem at all. I'm not overclocking either component but I can't imagine the extra current draw would make any difference. If in any doubt run your set up through this, it allows for overclock speeds. I used it to decide which PSU to get from Scan.
