The arrival of the solid-state drive (SSD) has revolutionised the speed at which modern PCs perform common tasks. This is because SSDs have no moving parts, compared to larger, bulkier mechanical drives, thus they store information on memory chips. This means that accesses, reads and writes are many, many times faster

A motherboard’s main job is to act as a conduit between the various hardware elements that make up a PC. It needs to be able to link the desired CPU(s), system memory, graphics card, hard drive(s), and add-in cards and enable them to work in harmony.

512GB Samsung 960 Pro, M.2 PCIe NVMe, 48 Layer V-NAND, 3500MB/s Read, 2100MB/s, 330K/330K IOPS, 400TBW, Retail is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ridiculously fast This seems to be the only product in this performance category, as far as I can tell, and it is amazing. Pricey but incredible. I considered the Evo version, but didn't like how for transfers over 11gb(?) in size it drops right down to the speed of 'normal' SSDs, and finally went for this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Performance With Windows Server - An Essential Purchase Received the item quickly from Scan, and fitted it to a spare M.2 socket on an Asus X-99 board. Made the required bios settings to allow the installation / booting of Windows, then did a full install of Windows Server 16, including all applications and updates. I was extremely impressed by the high R/W speeds offered by the 960 Pro, which were visible throughout the software installation steps. However, once I completed the steps, I was even more impressed with a fully loaded Windows Server showing the login screen within 7 seconds of leaving the boot screen! I have now decided to purchase a second 960 Pro, and would recommend the 960 Pro to anyone who has either an M.2 socket on the motherboard, or an NVME SSD adaptor. In terms of M.2 SSD drives, the best has just got better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from super sample streaming Rapid response, fastest load times was seen in Omnisphere 2 which is my go-to-vsti. Streaming permits samples to largely reside on disk. In this way you can use large samples with a relatively small amount of memory according to Spectrasonics. Load times was compared with 850 Pro SSD. I can justify the expenditure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product I have only dropped the value down by one notch only as I think all SSDs are somewhat overpriced! This is the first time I have had any experience with SSDs, but I had no problems with the installation, after reviewing the motherboard manual to choose the best of the 3 slots available.. Windows 10 Pro installed, along with other items of software with no issues. I can't comment, from experience, on the speed of the drive as this was part of a new build, but the whole system runs extremely well. All parts for the build were supplied by Scan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wow This is quick (really quick) Took a while to get it working at full whack on a rampage 5 ..turned out to be a conflict with xmp memory profiles ?? Had to turn them down but the trade off is definately worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast SSD, but software support lacking I bought this SSD hoping for a) fast drive and b) making use of hardware SSD encryption (SED) w/ Bitlocker. I was not disappointed with its speed, but setting up hardware encryption turned out to be enormously difficult because Samsung Magician tool doesn't support this properly. A bit of a disappointment, but overall a good SSD drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Harddisk This is really as good as it says on the tin. Super fast and solid. Really happy with these. So easy as well to install. Do make sure your motherboard supports one native. In my case I installed one native on my motherboard and one via the pci slots. Both of them are really fast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightning fast Placed this in my system, replacing a Samsung SM951 drive which was AHCI build. When I placed it into the system, I configured RAID and Intel RST, worked a charm. Installing Windows was simple, with no additional drivers required. Now the machine boots in seconds, performance within the Windows environment is second to none. Far out performs the previous M.2 drive, with exceptional performance. Really happy with the investment.

Questions & Answers

Any mobo?

Hi, do these M.2 ssds fit to any mobo or do you need a current gen? I'm currently packing a bundle from you, mobo is P8Z77-V. BR Geoff
Asked by: Heffers
Hi Geoff, your motherboard would need to have an M.2 slot on it to use this. Unless there are PCIE slot adapters for M.2 and you have a spare one of those. I can't see mention of M.2 on your motherboards's page on Asus' website.
