The Synology DX525 is a 5-bay expansion unit designed to seamlessly expand the storage capabilities of your existing DiskStation. With support for both 3.5" SATA hard drives and 2.5" SATA SSDs, it offers flexible capacity increases without needing to power down your system. Thanks to plug-and-play integration and hot-swappable drive support, additional storage can be brought online with zero downtime.
Local Backup That Stays Close to Home
In addition to expanding your storage, the DX525 can also be used as a dedicated local backup target. When configured as a separate volume, it provides physical redundancy in the event of a main system failure, helping protect your most important data without relying on offsite backups or third-party services.
Integrated Management via DSM
Once connected, the DX525 is instantly recognised and managed through Synology’s DiskStation Manager (DSM). The additional bays can be used to create new volumes or expand existing ones, and online volume expansion ensures your services stay up and running during the process. While it supports creating volumes across both the main NAS and the expansion unit, Synology recommends keeping volumes local to each unit for the best performance.
