Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD

1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD

3D V-NAND Flash Memory

3D V-NAND Flash Memory 3D V-NAND is a unique and innovative flash memory architecture from Samsung, it’s advanced enough to overcome the density limitations, performance and endurance of the conventional NAND architecture. In the 850 EVO 1TB SSD the 32 cell layers are stacked vertically over one another; this allows better performance and higher densities due to the smaller footprint.

Turbowrite Technology

Maximise Your Everyday Computing

Samsung TurboWrite Technology allows you to achieve the ultimate read / write performance that will maximise your everyday computing, this allows the 850 EVO 1TB to obtain 1.9x faster random write speeds. The 850 EVO SSD delivers top of the class performance in sequential read (540 MB/s) and write (520 MB/s) speeds. Plus, in all QD for client PC usage scenario’s you gain optimised random performance.

Samsung 850 EVO - Rapid mode

Rapid Mode

2x Faster Processing Speeds

Rapid Mode from Samsung provides 2x faster processing data speeds on a system level by utilising unused PC memory usage (DRAM) as cache storage. The maximum memory usage in Rapid Mode has increased from 1 GB, in the 840 EVO version, up to 4 GB in the 850 EVO when using 16GB of DRAM, another advantage is you get 2x the performance in all random queue depth.

850 EVO Features

Improved Energy Efficiency

Compute Longer with Improved Energy Efficiency

The 850 EVO is now 25% more power efficient than the older 840 EVO during write operations thanks to the 3D V-NAND only consuming half the energy than the 2D V-NAND. The Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD also delivers longer battery life using a controller optimised for 3D V-NAND now enabling device sleep at a highly efficient 2 mW.

Secure Data - AES 256 Encryption

Secure Valuable Data Using AES 256 Encryption

The 850 EVO comes fortified with the latest hardware-based full disk encryption engine. The AES 256 encryption-bit security technology secures data without any performance degradation and complies with TCG Opal 2.0. It is also compatible with Microsoft e-drive IEEE1667 so your data is protected at all times for your peace of mind.

5 Year Warranty

Guaranteed Endurance and Reliability

The 850 EVO delivers guaranteed endurance and reliability by doubling the TBW compared to the previous generation 840 EVO backed by an industry leading 5 year warranty. The 850 EVO through minimised performance degradation allows sustained performance improvements of up to 30% over the 840 EVO proving to be one of the most dependable storage devices.

Dynamic Thermal Guard

Protected from Overheating - Dynamic Thermal Guard

The 850 EVO's Dynamic Thermal Guard constantly monitors and maintains ideal temperatures for the drive to operate in optimal conditions for the integrity of your data. When temperatures rise above an optimal threshold, the Thermal Guard automatically throttles temperatures down protecting your data while maintaining responsiveness to ensure your computer is always safe from overheating.

Level up to the 850 EVO simply without any hassle

In three simple steps the Samsung’s One-stop Install Navigator software easily allows you to migrate all the data and applications from the existing primary storage to the 850 EVO. The Samsung Magician software also allows you to optimise and manage your system best suited for your SSD.

Top-Quality Components

In-house solution consisting of top-quality components

Samsung is the only SSD brand to design and manufacture all its components in-house allowing complete optimised integration. The result - enhanced performance, lower power consumption with up to 1 GB LPDDR2 DRAM cache memory and improved energy-efficiency with the MEX / MGX controller.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great. Super fast, great reliability. It works very well. The speeds as are described and this one seems to be the better of the alternatives. The only issues are with the Samsung Magician software. The English text in the program is a translation and some of it can be strangely worded or not entirely clear. There's also a windows 10 issue in regards to the Rapid mode. Rapid mode checks your computer meets the minimum requirements for it but for many it will fail to detect the operating system and so fails the check not allowing you to use rapid mode. Seems to be only windows 10. Other than that it works entirely as described and no problems at all. If you are moving from a hard disk drive this will be the most noticeable improvement you'll ever buy for your PC. Assuming you install the OS and stuff on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast and plenty of space This SSD gives plenty of space at a decent price. I use mine as a Steam folder drive and it performs as advertised. For fatter programs and my OS, I use an NVMe SSD, but this is a great general purpose drive for programs that benefit from a fast drive. Obviously, for storage, larger capacity HDDs are better value. I will probably get another one when I run out of space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good reliable SSD. Ordered, received, fitted, job done. Very good service, product and delivery. Thank you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Volume abounds What can I say other than it's got good space. 250MB is not enough for me, once I start running a couple of virtual machines, and downloading some large ISO's, but 1TB is. Or should I say 940MiB. I must be old because I missed the memo on a Terabyte being renamed to a Tibibyte, along with a notable drop in data storage capacity to go with it (like the old new and improved chocolate bars). Anyway, I digress. It is more than enough to start running a full blown development environment, a few business apps, a game or 15, along with a few VM's, and some left overs for filling up with stuff for the odd late night private viewing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it says... Easy to fit, fast and efficient. Actually achieves the quoted speeds in my system (Asus G771). Steam folder migrated from old HDD really improves loading times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Samsung Evo Laptop upgrade An easy upgrade for an aging laptop. Transfer software to create a copy of the old drive, included. Cheaper than buying a new laptop but just as effective.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not the cheapest, but from a quality manufacturer I was torn between this and a Sandisk, but this disk is wickedly fast and does the job perfectly as my main games storage drive. I'm hoping from a manufacturer like Samsung it'll last a good deal longer than a cheaper option.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Incompatibility problems with Windows 10 Let me be clear, the SSD itself works just fine in Windows 10, its the Magician software that does not. However, if you want to enjoy the full 540/520 performance that you paid for then you'll need to use the performance options within the Magician software. In Windows 10 this is not possible. I cannot do any better that 330 Write and 340 Read speeds as indicated by the benchmarks within Magician. The Rapid Mode option is grayed out and over-provisioning is a complete disaster! DO NOT USE Over Provisioning... which supposedly maximizes the lifetime and performance of your SSD ended in near disaster for me, not once but twice! My second attempt to reserve 10% after an identical and potentially disastrous first attempt resulted in reserving the remaining 730GB instead. That would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that there is no way of undoing this. The over-provisioning removal tool does not work properly, your SSD still thinks it is full to capacity. If you are very lucky like me and still have your old SSD then you have the luxury of purchasing a USB SSD adapter cable, opening up your machine, installing and booting from your old SSD, format, yes FORMAT the new SSD, then using the cable perform an extremely lengthy data migration, then reinstall the new SSD back into the machine, boot up and hope for the best. The SSD works fine now, it's faultless and fast but you're paying for the extreme performance and not getting it, which means its value is severely diminished. SamSung's Data Migration Tool is fantastic, it saved the day, but it needs to be fantastic because the rest of Magician is so dangerous for Windows 10 users that it should come with a health warning.
