In the 850 EVO 1TB SSD the 32 cell layers are stacked vertically over one another; this allows better performance and higher densities due to the smaller footprint.

2x Faster Processing Speeds

Rapid Mode from Samsung provides 2x faster processing data speeds on a system level by utilising unused PC memory usage (DRAM) as cache storage. The maximum memory usage in Rapid Mode has increased from 1 GB, in the 840 EVO version, up to 4 GB in the 850 EVO when using 16GB of DRAM, another advantage is you get 2x the performance in all random queue depth.

The 850 EVO is now 25% more power efficient than the older 840 EVO during write operations thanks to the 3D V-NAND only consuming half the energy than the 2D V-NAND.
