TekSpek Guides
Date Issued: 21st Oct 2008

You've probably read the USB Tekspek, and perhaps your intrigue, or product interest, has lead you to look up Firewire as well. The two are similar in some respects, particularly some of the products that use the two technologies. However, Firewire has its differences, which means it has both benefits and drawback when compared to USB. This Tekspek will look at Firewire and also look at it with respect to USB.

In computing terms, system buses are used to connect various components to the motherboard’s core logic and, often, to each other. Modern PCs run with a multitude of high-speed buses ranging from the interconnects between, say, the chipset and the CPU, graphics card, memory, and peripherals.

13 Port Icybox USB 3.0 Hub with 2.1 Amp USB Charge Port, Aluminium Case, 5 Gbit/s Transfer, + AC Power Adapter is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well made, robust & simple Does exactly what you would expect: provides 13 USB 3 data ports and 1 USB 3 charging port. Other hubs I have tried were flashy but made from flimsy plastic and constantly moved by the attached cables. Even with 11 cables attached, this hub stays put. Good purchase that I would highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good piece of Equipment These days we need more and more usb ports. This is an excellent 13 port usb which illuminates those ports active, and even has a laptop, tablet, phone charger port which charges whilst pc is off. Also has an on off switch should it be required. I found it quite pricey but bought it on the old adage that 'you get what you pay for.'

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pricey but quality USB hub. I've used IcyBox USB hubs and SATA docking stations for a while now and never had any build quality issues or faults with them. The main reason for getting the 13-port hub was because of concurrent multiple USB flash drive access/image/erase requirements. The hub is black, anodised aluminium and feels a quality build. The LEDs beside the ports illuminate to indicate connection with a device (there is no indication of transfer). The unit is supplied with velcro fastening and adhesive rubber feet for securing/preventing damage to surfaces. The addition of the charging port was a bonus as my phone charger was malfunctioning and the Icybox port charges my ageing Galaxy S3 as quickly as I remember the original charger did from new. Other than that there's not really a whole lot to say about a USB hub. I always prefer powered hubs (as this is) as it's easy to overload a single USB port that is natively powered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good and neat good finish Very useful usb 3.0 very tidy have only found one problem it moves if you fully load all the sockets it could do with some sort of feet on it I have turned to the good old blue tack.that did the trick with 13 cables there is quite a lot of forces from different directions.the finish on plug is exceptional would buy again
