Unitree A2 Robots Coming Soon At Scan

Scan partner Unitree has announced a new range of quadruped robots, the A2-series, which will soon be available to try and buy.

The A2 builds on the capabilities of the existing Go2-series and B2-series, which were already very capable quadruped robots. Like the B2, the new A2 is built for commercial and industrial workloads, being not only a lot more rugged than the Go2 but also being capable of carrying much larger loads.

What the A2 brings to the market is effectively unlimited range. This is made possible by replacing the fixed battery with a pair of batteries that can be hot swapped out in the field. For example, in a mountain rescue situation the B2 could make one rescue, but would have to return to base to charge the battery after four hours. In contrast, the A2 could perform multiple rescues, back to back, simply by swapping out the batteries as and when required. What’s more, the A2 is also nearly half the weight of the B2, making the most out of the new battery configuration.

In other regards the B2 and A2 are broadly comparable, with similar speed, agility and climbing ability.

There will be several models in the range, including a base A2, an improved A2-PRO with superior sensors and computational performance, plus models with wheels at the base of the legs instead of feet.

Robots represent the next step in the evolution of AI – ushering in the era of physical AI. To make the most of quadruped robots such as the Unitree A2 you need a way to efficiently and safely train them using AI models before they are deployed in the real world. Scan is at the forefront of this revolution, helping organisatons develop and deploy AI-powered robots using digital twin platforms such as NVIDIA Omniverse and NVIDIA AI frameworks.
