Corsair Xeneon Flex - 45" 45WQHD240 UltraWide Quad HD 240Hz FreeSync OLED HDR Flexible Gaming Monitor

First things first let’s get the elephant in the room dealt with, a £2k (at launch) gaming monitor is no small thing. With a mid-level gaming PC coming in around the same cost and a new gaming console at a quarter of the cost of the Corsair Flex many might baulk. However, there are a wide number of use cases to justify the investment. The 45” OLED HDR display is more than wide enough to at worst replace a two-screen set-up and potentially replace a three-screen set-up. The incredible colour depth, refresh rate and adjustable curve offer a myriad of options across professional and recreational activities.

The Curve

The Corsair Flex allows you to move from a completely flat 45” 1200r display to a thoroughly bendy 800r (r represents millimetres of radius). This level of adjustment means you can move from a totally flat screen experience ideal for map based RTS games where curvature might make less sense, including productivity-based activities.

The curvature is achieved via a pair of handles attached to a large horizontal bar across the centre-back of the screen. It’s a durable piece of kit which may at first seem a little stiff but doesn’t require a lot of force to achieve the bend. The compromise to the curvature is a lack of height/rotate adjustability.

This compromise is slightly offset by some sensible placement of USB, power and navigation on the front of the supporting stand. Once the screen is set to its maximum curve the immersion is incredible, for FPS and RPG games the experience is second to none and totally justifies Corsairs claim that all games are not equal in the screen experience.

However, if you are still trying to justify the expense to your better half, I may have some answers. The colour accuracy and experience is some of the best out of the box I have seen making the screen ideal for photo & video editors, content creators and other professionals from design industries. The sheers size of the screen means you can have multiple windows open and not feel crowded, so you can still binge watch Netflix while ploughing through editing a batch of photographs.

Some gamers may be a little disappointed by the 83pi, but the 240hz and 0.03 refresh rate more than make up for that giving an incredible gaming experience that is still sharp and ultra responsive.

The Stats

There are some serious numbers providing the incredible gaming experience. There are 2 x HDMI 2.1 ports for those rocking the latest consoles/graphics cards. There is a range of USB-A and a USB-C and a 3.5mm jack on the front. The resolution is a whopping 3,440 x 1,440 (21:9 aspect ratio) with adaptive sync for both AMD and Nvidia.

Although the price is always going to be the talking point (presently £1399.98), once you move past that and realise that replacing 3 x 500gbp flat monitors that require 3 kettle leads and take up a mixture of HDMI or display ports on your graphics card, plus you can only hook one up to you most recent console the price suddenly seems a lot less alarming. Added to that reasoning the professional use case for content creators with accurate colour and sheer scale of the beast the Corsair Flex 45” gaming monitor is a huge step in a new age of adjustable screens.
