Robotics & AI Engineer
The Role
As a Robotics & AI Engineer at Scan, you'll play a central role in developing and deploying the next generation of intelligent robotic systems, combining robotics, artificial intelligence, simulation, computer vision and autonomous technologies to solve real-world challenges.
You'll be based at Scan HQ in Bolton and work as part of a growing team focused on AI and robotics. This is a hands-on role where you'll work with advanced robotics hardware, modern AI frameworks and NVIDIA technologies across areas including autonomous navigation, perception, simulation, manipulation and machine learning.
We're looking for capable engineers who are passionate about robotics, AI and solving complex technical challenges. You don't need experience with every technology listed below. We're particularly interested in what you've built, your technical ability and your willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop robotics software and applications using ROS2
- Build autonomous robotic behaviours, navigation and control systems
- Develop AI-powered perception and computer vision applications
- Create digital twins and simulation environments using NVIDIA Isaac Sim
- Develop and test simulation-to-real-world (Sim2Real) workflows
- Integrate cameras, LiDAR, depth sensors and other robotic sensing technologies
- Develop SLAM, sensor fusion and autonomous navigation solutions
- Apply machine learning and reinforcement learning techniques to robotics applications
- Research and develop new algorithms for intelligent robotic systems
- Build, test and deploy prototype robotic systems
- Debug, optimise and improve robotic software and system performance
- Work with physical robotic platforms including humanoid robots, robotic arms and autonomous mobile robots
- Produce technical documentation and reports to support development and deployment
The Candidate
- Experience developing robotic systems or relevant robotics, AI or software projects
- Knowledge of ROS2 and modern robotics software frameworks
- Proficiency in Python and/or C++
- Comfortable working within Linux environments
- Experience with NVIDIA Isaac Sim and/or NVIDIA Isaac ROS
- Knowledge of computer vision technologies such as OpenCV
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Understanding of reinforcement learning and its applications within robotics
- Knowledge of SLAM, autonomous navigation and robotic behaviours
- Experience working with LiDAR, depth cameras and sensor fusion
- Knowledge of MoveIt and robotic manipulation
- Experience with Docker and containerised applications
- Knowledge of NVIDIA Jetson platforms
- Understanding of digital twins and Sim2Real workflows
- An interest in emerging technologies including LLMs, AI agents, humanoid robotics and autonomous mobile robots
- Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills
- Passionate about robotics, AI and continuous learning
