128 Channels of AVB Audio, Right at Your DesktopRME's Digiface AVB is a compact USB 3 audio interface designed to put AVB network audio directly into your computer-based setup. It provides up to 128 channels of audio into the AVB network and another 128 channels back, giving you 256 channels of digital I/O in a remarkably small, bus-powered unit. At the heart of the Digiface AVB is its Gigabit Ethernet connection, supporting up to 16 AVB audio streams with configurable stream sizes from two to 32 channels. That makes it possible to connect the computer to a wide range of AVB-equipped audio devices and route large channel counts without relying on a conventional bank of analogue connections. The interface supports sample rates from 44.1kHz through to 192kHz.
USB 3 handles the connection to your computer, with RME's established driver architecture providing low-latency operation and support for professional DAW workflows. On the software side, TotalMix FX provides comprehensive routing and mixing, while the included AVDECC controller allows you to discover AVB devices on the network and manage incoming and outgoing stream connections. TotalMix Remote can also be used for network-based control. The Digiface AVB also includes BNC Word Clock In and Out, allowing it to integrate into a properly clocked digital system and operate from internal, AVB or external Word Clock sources. Automatic Double/Quad Speed detection and conversion is supported on the Word Clock input.
There's a dedicated 6.3mm headphone output for monitoring, with a specified 113dBA dynamic range and output impedance of just 2 Ohms. It can be used independently for monitoring alongside the extensive routing available through TotalMix FX. Despite the amount of I/O it handles, the Digiface AVB measures just 112 x 26 x 83mm and weighs 300g. It's powered directly from USB, making it particularly useful for mobile rigs, remote recording setups and engineers who need to interface a computer with an AVB network without carrying a larger rackmount interface.
For studios, live production and installation work built around AVB, the Digiface AVB is a straightforward way of getting a computer into the network while retaining RME's familiar routing, clocking and driver infrastructure. It doesn't try to be an all-in-one analogue interface — it does the network audio job, and does it with a very serious amount of channel capacity.

Exploring New Ways to Transport Audio
RME’s Digiface AVB showcases how audio can be transferred from a Mac or PC into the network and back using the AVB protocol stack. It allows to send up to 128 audio channels for record and playback at 48 kHz / 24 bit sampling frequency and 64 channels at 96 kHz (128 channels I/O AVB) or 32 channels at 192 kHz with quad speed (64 channels I/O AVB).
RME’s Channels are organized in streams of configurable size from 2 to 32 channels, which enables connections to all available AVB audio devices on the market (comprehensive compatibility tests pending). The accompanying software package comprises an AVDECC controller, which provides essential functions to discover all AVB devices in a network and manage connections of incoming and outgoing streams. Basic monitoring capabilities are built in. TotalMix FX enables comprehensive routing and monitoring options.

It allows for practically unlimited mixing and routing operations, with all inputs and playback channels simultaneously, to any hardware outputs.
The Digiface Series includes a dedicated Control Room section with Talkback, Main/Phones, fader groups, mute groups, complete remote controllability via Mackie or OSC protocol, and much more. The Digiface Series does not support DSP based effects (FX) like EQ or reverb. Additionally RME’s latest software, TotalMix Remote, enhances the power of RME interfaces by enabling remote control via iOS, PC or Mac. With a straightforward set up process — simply enter the IP address of the computer you would like to control with TotalMix Remote and get going — users can quickly adjust any aspect of TotalMix FX on a host system while walking around the studio with their tablet, or from a control room located elsewhere in the facility.
