Melbourne Instruments - Roto Control
Motorised Knobs, Instant Recall and Total Hands-On ControlTake hands-on control of your entire production setup with the Melbourne Instruments Roto-Control, a motorised MIDI controller that brings physical movement, tactile feedback and instant parameter recall to software and hardware workflows. Its eight touch-sensitive motorised knobs automatically move to reflect parameter changes, so when you switch tracks, plugins or saved setups, the controls follow along rather than leaving you guessing where each setting sits.
Each knob has its own high-resolution display for clear parameter names and values, while 16 RGB-backlit buttons provide additional control over your session. Customisable haptic feedback lets you tailor the feel of each knob to its job, whether that means smooth movement for continuous adjustments, stepped resistance for selecting values or a centre detent for pan controls. It’s a genuinely different approach to MIDI control, combining the flexibility of software with the immediacy of dedicated hardware.
Three operating modes make Roto-Control adaptable to different tasks. MIX Mode brings supported DAWs directly under your fingertips, synchronising track names, colours and levels. PLUGIN Mode gives you hands-on access to instruments and effects, with learned parameter mappings saved for instant recall across projects. MIDI Mode extends control to external synthesisers, effects and other MIDI-compatible equipment, and can operate without a computer.
The Motion Recorder adds a performance-focused twist, letting you record movements across up to eight MIDI parameters and loop them back as repeating patterns. Create evolving modulation, rhythmic changes and automated movement without drawing everything into a DAW automation lane. With multiple playback directions and step lengths, it opens up plenty of scope for experimentation.
Connectivity includes USB-C and five-pin MIDI In, Out and Thru, making integration with studio hardware straightforward. The Roto-Setup app provides deeper customisation of assignments, labels, colours, haptics and control behaviour, while dedicated integration is available for Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio and Logic Pro. Cycling '74 Max support also opens the door to custom instruments and performance tools.
Compact and portable, Roto-Control is built for producers and performers who want a more direct relationship with their software and hardware. From mixing and plugin editing to external synth control and recorded MIDI movement, it turns parameter adjustment into a more tactile, visual and responsive part of the creative process.

Three Modes of Operation
MIX ModeBring your DAW’s mixer into the physical world with the Melbourne Instruments Roto-Control. In MIX mode, Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio and Logic Pro sync automatically, displaying track names and colours on the controller without the need for manual mapping. Levels, pan and sends are ready to access, while the motorised knobs physically move to reflect current parameter values as you navigate between tracks.
Dedicated buttons let you mute, solo and record-arm tracks directly from the hardware, keeping essential mixing functions close at hand. There’s no fixed limit to the number of tracks you can work with, either — simply bank and page through your session as needed. Track names, ordering and colours update automatically when you make changes in your DAW, keeping the controller in sync with your project as it evolves.
Plugin Mode
Learn a plugin once. Roto-Control remembers it foreverWith the Melbourne Instruments Roto-Control, mapping your favourite plugins is a one-time job. Touch a knob, adjust a parameter and the controller stores the mapping on the device, including the plugin name and parameter labels. When you return to that plugin, Roto-Control recognises it, reloads your saved layout, displays the correct names and moves its motorised knobs to match the current parameter values.
You can browse and select plugins directly from the controller, making it easy to move between instruments and effects without repeatedly setting up your controls. With storage for up to 64 plugins and as many as 128 parameters per plugin, your custom mappings stay with Roto-Control — ready to use across different projects and computers.
Smart Mode
Native Logic Pro Smart ControlsDesigned exclusively for Logic Pro, Smart Mode takes plugin control a step further by mirroring Logic’s Smart Controls directly on the Melbourne Instruments Roto-Control. Instrument and effect parameters are brought together in one place, with up to 16 mapped controls per device displayed instantly on the controller’s screens. There’s no manual mapping or learning process to work through — simply select a compatible device and start adjusting, with clear parameter labels and tactile, motorised knobs keeping everything within easy reach.
