New dimension in audio for my Scan 3XS laptop.I live on a yacht and one of the things I missed living in a house was my projector based home cinema, complete with a decent 7.1 surround sound system costing £3,000.
Now my yacht isn't that big, certainly not big enough to house a full blown home cinema however, thanks to my Scan 3XS laptop, an Asus 27 inch computer monitor, Asus external Blu-ray reader/writer, and the Logitech Z906 5.1 Surround Sound speakers (all bought from Scan), I can once more experience the full effect of a home cinema and listening to my music, albeit on a smaller scale.
I did check out a few reviews on the internet before I made my choice, but they were mostly concerned with the performance and volume of the subwoofer when playing heavy rock music rather than reviewing the, more important, 5.1 surround sound experience while watching Blu-ray movies. My only concern was that the 500 watt RMS system would be too powerful for my yacht and wouldn't give me the same surround sound experience at low volumes. I need not have worried, this system combined with the Sound Blaster X-Fi5 MB software on my laptop, is just perfect for the limited space I have.
It did take me a while to wire in the speakers so I had no trailing wires, not what you want on a yacht. The Sound Blaster software allowed me to calibrate and fine tune individual speakers; you can do this with the Logitech Controller that comes with the system, but it only calibrates the front left and right together and the rear left and right together, although the front centre speaker and the subwoofer can be tuned independently. In normal setups this would be fine but for my setup on the boat, I sit closer to the left side than the right so it was important to be able to calibrate each individual speaker separately.
The performance of this system is truly amazing for the money, at last I can watch my movies and experience true 5.1 surround sound and all through my laptop. I can now hear crystal clear dialogue from the actors as well as the background ambient sounds just as the audio engineers working on the film intended. As for the subwoofer, it's a beast, but you can tame it if need be for small spaces such as mine.
The listening experience from playing my music has vastly improved. Using the Logitech controller you can select Stereo/ 3D/ 4.1/ 2.1 or all 6 speakers. I can even tell whether the audio recording from my library is mp3 or better, the difference is astonishing, I will make sure that when I copy my CD's to my laptop I will record them in the higher data rates.

Average replacement for Creative Labs Gigaworks S750 THX SpeakersThis 5.1 amp/speaker set is average, power/volume is ok, sound quality is ok, overall this product is ok. It's the best available all in one 5.1 amp/speaker product aimed at the PC market, however it isn't a patch on my previous Gigaworks S750 - but that isn't produced anymore.
If you're adamant you want a dedicated, no fuss piece of equipment to deliver sound from your gaming PC, then this is the set to get. If you don't mind a bit of fuss then I'd recommend you buy a consumer surround amp aimed at home theater enthusiasts and source your own satellite speakers, I wish I had!

Excellent Speakers, But There's A Catch...I'll get the catch out of the way since it doesn't directly affect the speakers themselves. This is the unique point in time where I can't recommend buying these speakers from Scan as there are a number of places that sell them cheaper. That said, my loyalty to Scan due to their unbeatable service meant I was willing to pay the extra. This is the only reason why I could only give the Value rating 3 out of 5.
The speakers themselves are simply fantastic. I bought them to replace a set of Logitech Z-5400 speakers, which aren't exactly lacking in power or quality either, so I wasn't sure if I had done the right thing. I needn't have worried as the difference between the Z-5400 and Z906 sets is like night and day. With the Z906's there no annoying default where the centre speaker is noticeably louder than the other 4 satellite speakers, the 3D surround is much better handled, the built-in decoder is much better, and of course the sound clarity, bass, treble and overall power are also all significantly better. This is not to say the Z-5400 set was a bad set, far from it, but it shows just how good the Z906 speakers are!
Installation was a breeze, everything just plugs straight into the back of the sub woofer (which incidentally is both smaller and lighter than I was expecting). When spending this much money on speakers you have every right to demand something supremely good. With the Z906 speakers, that is precisely what you get. If you have a set like the Z-5400, or lower, and you have the budget, you really will be impressed at the difference these make. Personally I think the remote control is rather superfluous, but that's more likely because I am using these on my PC. If you are using these as a home theatre surround sound set in your living room for films and/or game console then the usefulness of the remote no doubt increases considerably. I've had a very hit and miss relationship with Logitech's PC hardware over the years, i'll certainly never buy another Logitech mouse, but speakers is the one area where Logitech have NEVER let me down, from the Z-640's to the Z-5400's and now the Z906's, they have never failed to impress.

Logitech Z906 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers, 500W RMSQuite a good set of surround Speakers and each speaker is independently connected by wire with easy connection. Also each speaker set's with remote control for volume include sub base volume for high or low sub base that you adjust to stop the neighbour's complaining.. But when the DVD or BLU-Ray plays the Sound code decode adjust the sound to the movie for greater Excellence. Volume Level to high is very loud and sub base. All can be adjusted easy by a small remote control..I found it easy to get on with and i'm using it with the many devices and optical when set-up later..V.Good..
