I am quite surprised at the quality of this enclosure considering its quite cheap price-tag. Its all aluminium and feels quite sturdy. Silent of course, as it is fanless but don't be concerned with overheating drives as the aluminium design keeps the enclosed drive quite cool.
Good speeds over USB 3.0 (large files achieved 100-110MiBps Write speeds about right for a mechanical), quite a sturdy and strong build of the enclosure proper. It is all brushed aluminium which is quite attractive with the meshing in the front with the LED indicator lights.
I must say the USB 3.0 cable bundled is a way way to short 0.5m, seriously for an extra £0.50 they could have extended it to 1m at least but I suppose Icy Box is keeping the price low.
One of the small things I could mark it down for apart from the lubriciously short USB cable (seriously get yourself a longer one when you order this they are £1) is the lack of spin-down support. That is when you connect this to your computer and then shut-down the computer the enclosure does not spin-down the hard drive contained within into an idle state, you have to manually turn it off with the little switch on the back. A small gripe but I wont mark it down due to the aforementioned good quality and very good price tag but be aware as it can be an annoyance.
Overall I think it is an excellent little enclosure, sturdy, attractive, good performance speeds considering the very low cost. I recommend.

I bought this to use as a new enclosure for the drive inside a Toshiba external drive (because the USB3 slot on the Toshiba case failed). Annoyingly, though, I had to reformat the disk to use it in the new enclosure (not sure whose fault that is, Toshiba's or ICY BOX). It's quiet, cool, attractive and fast. But it doesn't turn itself off when the computer turns off/sleeps, which is a bit of a pain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MagR Updated version of established product
I've had a previous version of this for years and had no problems. That one could use both USB2 and eSATA connections. My new motherboard hasn't got eSATA so I bought this as a replacement enclosure as it has USB3. The unit is the same - sleek black aluminium cover with blue and red LED's. It looks good, is silent and the case acts as a heatsink. I was surprised how fast USB3 is - it seemed faster than eSATA to me. I've installed a 2TB drive inside with no problems and despite it running at a slow 5400rpm data transfer for backups seems faster than ever.
The only downside is the relatively short USB cable which is also an rather incongruous blue colour. Other than that it's just a well made, well performing product.
Hope this helps.

Got this to use up one of many old HDDs I've accumulated over the years. Out of the box it seemed very solid and chunky. The instructions omit to tell you to remove the two screws on the side before sliding the tray out, luckily I didn't push that hard! A couple of spare screws for securing the HDD was a nice touch, as mentioned earlier the actual USB3 lead could be a bit longer.
In use it was quite fast and worked well with a 1TB WD Red. Overall, cheap and does what it says on the nicely crafted aluminium tin.
