Product Overview The Fractal Design Define R5 is the next evolution in the widely popular Define Series. Packed with intelligently designed enthusiast-oriented features delivering a silent case with powerful and expansive air and liquid cooling support, presented in a stunning Scandinavian inspired construction.

The Define R5 case reaches the highest level of silent computing through strategically placed dense soundabsorbing material, ModuVent™ fan vent covers and finely tuned Dynamic Series fans.

The Define R5 was designed with configurability in mind, accommodating up to 8 hard drives and all modern graphics cards. Should you wish to expand your system with water cooling components or more fans the layout can easily be configured to meet your demand. Features • Optimally designed for silent computing with high density noise-reducing material throughout the case for maximum sound absorption, while not compromising on airflow and cooling capabilities.
• Extensive water cooling support for a case of this size; housing radiators up to 420mm in the top and 360mm in the front.
• Equipped with new tool-less ModuVent™ fan slot covers allowing the user to install more fans if desired or keep fan slots covered to maximize sound absorption.
• Including two Fractal Design Dynamic GP14 140mm fans developed for superlative airflow while still maintaining low noise levels.
• Maintaining a dust-free interior with the help of dust filters that cover front and bottom air intakes that are easy to access from the front on the case.
• Newly configured front door with dual side mounting to better fit your work space.
• Highlighting 2 dedicated SSD mounts cleanly placed behind the motherboard tray that feature innovative new brackets delivering a tool-free installation and removal.
• The HDD cage system holds up to eight 3.5” or 2.5” drives and is more adaptable than ever, allowing the user to modify the case layout according to personal preference with more places to relocate the cages.
• The ODD cage can easily be removed to gain additional interior space; the area can be freed up to allow for increased airflow, to provide a new place for HDD cage mounting or to make more room for water cooling components.
• Sturdy metal HDD trays provide excellent dampening features for the hard drives while providing better airflow through the cage with an updated, more open design.
• The new and innovative Quick Release System on the left side of the case provides secure mounting of the left side panel, yet grants quick and easy access to the system.
• Three-speed fan controller is strategically integrated in the front panel and supports up to 3 fans.

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Watercooling for the PC has been around for years in some form or another, for at least as long as Scan have been in business, with basic physics defining why you want to use it. That means for air cooling, to cope with increasing temperature in the heatsink you need to move the air across it faster. That is why thermostatically controlled fans in your PC will turn faster the hotter something gets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Almost perfect I'm sure you have seen full reviews elsewhere, I only wanted to say; If this case was offered in aluminium, it would be the perfect case. 16 May 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Product Great case and extremely configurable and if it was not for this it would not have worked for me. I installed the Asus Maximus VIII with H115i Water Cooler but could not get the water cooler to fit at the top back of case. Had to remove the front drive bays (CD/DVD) to put the water cooler to the front top of case. Saw some people online say you can remove the plastic from the Motherboard to make it fit but did not want to damage brand new motherboard. 15 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Flexible & Quiet Case Loads of options for water cooling but I wanted a quiet rig so went with a Noctua NH-D15 air cooler, leaving the modu-vents in position. Lots of room everything fitted inside nicely. I removed one of the HD cages and added an extra 140mm front fan blowing directly over the GFX card. End result is I have a very quiet rig with low temps of 68°C running prime95. 31 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Case Really enjoyed working with this case, the HDD cages are removable as well so you can customise. Combined with my corsair PSU, when under small load it doesn't even sound like it's on. 17 February 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent soundproofing, room for improvement inside Great simple design, the soundproofing is excellent and may not have equivalents at this price range. Clever cable management. 4 USB ports on the front panel, which can come handy if you have various USB drives, gamepads, etc. you often plug in and out. But there are some shortcomings: it could (and should) have a no screw system for HDD and Disk drives. Here the system is exactly the same as 10 years ago. Same comment applies to side panels using hand screws, which is yet another obsolete feature. It is a very good case, but it could be even better to make it perfect. 15 February 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Extremely quiet Bought this for a new build - my main criteria was that the PC had to be QUIET. This is a quality case with sound deadening panels. The final PC, with watercooling and an SSD, is almost completely silent. Most impressed. 13 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by A high quality case Very pleased with this - the build quality is excellent with everything fitting together with a satisfying solidity. Lots of options to mod the internal layout and it can all be done very easily. Not too big and heavy but big enough to take an ATX board comfortably and to make future upgrades and mods easy, and it appears solid enough to keep the noise down as claimed. But, as yet, I still have to choose the 1151 board and the CPU & GPU that will adorn it - so can't test the noise suppression directly. 23 September 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent case Well thought out case - a pleasure to use. Just note that the ssd drives are to be mounted on the outside of the mounting plates, don't try to ram them into them. They should probably have made it a bit more obvious with the shape of the stamping, but it is pictured correctly in the manual (you just have to remember to read it!). Case is attractive, and you can make it as quiet or as cool as you like, although not both at the same time necessarily. Not that I have any complaints about cooling for my set up. 19 September 2015
