Single-Driver IEM Performance, Properly EngineeredFiiO's FD11 is a single-dynamic-driver IEM that borrows some properly serious engineering from FiiO's higher-end earphones. At its heart is a 10mm carbon-based dynamic driver with a dual-cavity design, giving the FD11 a responsive, controlled presentation with particular attention paid to vocal clarity and low-frequency detail. FiiO has paired the driver with an asymmetrical internal and external magnetic circuit, using N52 neodymium magnets to generate a stronger and wider magnetic field around the diaphragm. The idea is simple enough: more effective control over the driver, with quicker transient response and lower distortion when the music gets busy.

There's also a C-shaped acoustic flute built into the shell, designed to manage airflow and reduce resonance within the acoustic chamber. FiiO specifically uses this to reinforce the quality and cohesion of the mid-bass and sub-bass, giving drums and other low-frequency material a bit more weight without relying on a multi-driver arrangement. The shells themselves are made from liquid die-cast zinc alloy, polished and electroplated for a substantial, neatly finished construction. Their triangular, conch-inspired shape is designed around the contours of the ear, with an around-the-ear wearing position that helps keep the monitors securely in place.

The FD11 is also refreshingly straightforward to run. With 24Ω impedance and 111dB/mW sensitivity, it can be driven easily from portable players, DAC/amps and other everyday sources. The supplied 4-strand oxygen-free copper cable uses a 0.78mm 2-pin detachable connection, while a gold-plated 3.5mm plug keeps compatibility nice and simple. At this price, the FD11 makes a strong case for spending your money on the bits that actually affect the listening experience: a well-engineered dynamic driver, properly considered acoustic design and a replaceable cable, all wrapped up in a compact metal shell.
