Product Overview The Obsidian Series: Designed by builders, for builders

Stamped steel meets rugged aluminum for a look that’s subtly elegant.
A revolutionary combination of noise reduction and cooling.

Obsidian Series 550D is carefully engineered for noise reduction and sound isolation. But, it’s not just about keeping things quiet — there’s amazing cooling potential, lots of expansion flexibility, and the durability that Obsidian Series is renowned for.
Superior airflow for high-performance PCs.

Obsidian Series 550D comes with two front-mounted 120mm intake fans and one 120mm exhaust fan – more than enough for delivering the airflow required for a high-performance system. But if you’re pushing past high performance and into the realm of extreme-performance overclocking, there’s room for a lot more. The top panel provides room for two 120mm or 140mm fans, or a 240mm radiator for compatibility with Corsair Hydro Series CPU coolers and other liquid cooling systems. The side panel has mounting points for another two 120mm or 140mm fans for cooling multiple GPUs. In total, the 550D offers ten 120mm fan mounting points, six of which can also accommodate 140mm fans.
The silent treatment.

With many high-end PC cases, cooling is often provided without consideration for noise. Not so with the 550D: the front and side panels are fully lined with sound-damping material, and the top and side panels have their own sound-insulated vent covers to reduce noise leakage from unused fan mounting locations. The front air intakes are angled away from the front of the case for noise reduction, and the fans and drive bays use silicone mounts to reduce vibration noise. The result is a platform for building high-performance PCs you can live with.

The diamond-cut aluminum front panel includes two USB 3.0 connectors and audio connectors.
Smart features for serious builders.

The extra touches like magnetically mounted dust filters and one-button side panel removal make building fun, and using a 550D-based system a rewarding experience. Expansion is easy, with eight expansion slots, six tool-free hard drive bays with removable caddies and integrated 2.5” SSD support, and four tool-free optical drive bays. The top drive cage can be removed to accommodate GPUs of up to 452mm in length. The diamond-cut brushed aluminum front panel houses two high-speed USB 3.0 connectors and audio ports.

World-class Obsidian Series cases are made from stamped steel and brushed aluminum, providing both outstanding durability and great looks. State-of-the-art features are engineered with the singular purpose of meeting the needs of professional builders, high-end system integrators, and performance enthusiasts. Builds are straightforward and efficient, and there’s room for nearly any system configuration you can imagine. Features • Insulated, sound dampening side and front panels

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Watercooling
Date Issued: 19th Jun 2008

Watercooling for the PC has been around for years in some form or another, for at least as long as Scan have been in business, with basic physics defining why you want to use it. That means for air cooling, to cope with increasing temperature in the heatsink you need to move the air across it faster. That is why thermostatically controlled fans in your PC will turn faster the hotter something gets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Silent, well built and fantastic looking! I bought this to go with my new build thinking I wanted a good looking professional system that's easy to build into. While it cost more than most other high quality cases it certainly doesn't disappoint. 5* build quality 5* sound dampening 5* ease of use 5* looks Only down point is the price..... But if I had the choice to buy it again I wouldn't hesitate. 22 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Case I'm very pleased with this case as it is really well designed and very quiet. Only downside is that it doesn't have the option of a side window although I guess this would affect the sound levels! 30 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent case. Great features, Super quiet. Excellent case. I looked at all the Corsair range and opted for this for the price/size/features and reviews. It hasn't disappointed. Plenty of space inside and excellent cable management and removable HDD cage for good airflow. Keeps really cool inside. Sound proofing and door keeps it quiet but also with the option of opening the panels behind the fans for extra air under full power. The aluminium door looks great. Dust covers are easy to remove and clean. What more do you want? 19 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Exactly as described Build quality is excellent. Everything required is included. Only down side - and it isn't really a down - is installation is a little more awkward in dark-interior cases and the need to get extra illumination for specific areas. I was concerned there might not be enough room at the back of the MB for the cables but there is. 29 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Exceptionally well designed case I'm not much of a writer so I'll keep this simple. This case is very well built and really silent. I had no trouble laying out all the power and data cables. As you can see from the attached image (prior to connecting the power leads) there is plenty of space for your ATX motherboard and a big video card. If you feel like you need more space for the video - drive shelves can be easily removed. For those of you who enjoy their peace and quiet time, this case comes with quite big rubber feet to reduce any vibration that may otherwise be passed on to and amplified by your desk. The sound proofing material with which it is lined seems to really do the trick. I measured 22dB when all three case fans and both DH-14 fans run at 50% and up to 43dB with all fans at their full speed. I found this to be exceptionally precious attribute of this case - you can nearly forget that your PC is running until you start playing games. The only bad thing I found with this case is the front door is a bit stiff to open but that can be blamed on the special types of hinges that allow you to open the door both ways (or remove them altogether if it suits you). Furthermore if you connect something to your front panel (USB hard drive for instance) you will not be able to open the door freely because the cable will get in the way. I would recommend this case to anyone who wants to build a quiet PC and likes to have all their cables hidden away inside the case. Very good product:) 26 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by This case is outstanding An exceptional case with several outstanding features. The door at the front hides two fans with filters exposed by a removable panel. There are two more removable panels to aid cooling. One in the top and another larger one on the left side directly facing the mobo. Each has facilities to add more fans of different sizes. Inside there is a wealth of room for whatever you want to put in be it hard drives or what ever else you need. But for me the best part was the sides could be quickly removed for access at the press of a button. Gone on this case are those screws at the back. I liked this so much I bought a second 550D for another I was building. Twinned you might say. 27 September 2013

I have the Obsidian 550D and I'm looking at the H90 radiator for my GPU (for the rear exhaust mount) and a H100i for my CPU for the top mount. Will they both fit in this case together?
