Chassis Airflow
Chassis Airflow
Date Issued: 20th Oct 2008

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Watercooling
Watercooling
Date Issued: 19th Jun 2008

Watercooling for the PC has been around for years in some form or another, for at least as long as Scan have been in business, with basic physics defining why you want to use it. That means for air cooling, to cope with increasing temperature in the heatsink you need to move the air across it faster. That is why thermostatically controlled fans in your PC will turn faster the hotter something gets.

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 37 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by What can i say i aam in the middle with this case First and foremost do not get me wrong I like the concept of this case, I have an i7 6700k with a corsair h105 and i have it overclocked to 4.6 ghz and not under load it runs at 20degrees and my graphics card a zotac gtx 970 extreme core edition runs at 45 under load and 30 stable. So its cooling capabilities are excellent and thats because of the separate compartment housing the psu and most of the wires. But and this is the thing I do believe it is not especially high quality for its price the drive bays are shall we say flimsy and you do not get any dust filter for the top and rear fan compartments and the side panel is flimsy.. In a way I feel as though you pay for concept alone and not quality of build. So at the moment at this price because of no other case on the market in this price bracket is designed like this,I would recommend it some manufacturers will jump on board sooner or later ,Some have but they are three hundred pounds OUCH, Anyway I digress :) I say if you need a case now get this one but if you can wait and if you are looking at this page I guess you cannot:) their will be other better built dual chamber cases for the same sort of money down the line. Thanks for reading thats my rant over I am off to take over the galaxy in civ beyond earth you know what they say to infinity and beyond LOL :) BTW its a big square case imagine 1 and 1/2 mid tower cases joined together lengthways not height , yes it is that big but for its cooling capabilities I can put up with it can you. 18 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Airflow Great case for a build where size of case is not the main factor. Very easy to get neat cable runs and to keep the maximum airflow. Putting the PSU on the closed side leaves the case open for showing off all of your components. This was used for a high end workhorse PC and delivered a great result. 26 November 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Plenty of room with a good build quality. I bought this case as I wanted more room to put my components in, it is big enough to have a decent cable management behind he mobo. However the downside to this was the fact that the specs say a 360mm rad in the front and a 280mm rad in the top, but be warned that it will not take both. I had to remove a fan from the 360 in the front to allow them both to fit, with some modification to the cas as well. But overall it's a prime example of why I will be sticking to corsair cases and power supplies from now on. 22 November 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for the untidy builder My last case was an Antec 900 which served me well, however with 4 hard disks and a blu ray drive it all felt a bit cramped, and I wasn't able to upgrade to a 970 GTX due to the length requirements. With this case there's far more room and fitting everything in is much easier, especially with the dedicated drive cages. It's also been very nice to put everything in without having to worry too much about airflow since all the cables are separate from the motherboard / graphics card. The only thing I would say is that the case feels a bit cheap. This this price point for this much case I wouldn't expect wonders, but compared to the Antec 900 it does feel a bit flimsy. 05 October 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome Lovin the case since i bought it,space execelen, air flow its awesome but the fun is nosiy but not that noisy though, but still love it,cable management, just buy it and you will not regret it 27 August 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by great case, great cooling Excellent looking case. quality build as to be expected 31 May 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by OK case but not enough room for a push and pull H110gt cooler Maybe its my mobo ? i have the asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0 and the Cable that connects top right of the cpu dosen't give enough room for push and pull on the h110gt 22 May 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by One of the easiest cases i've worked on Good points It's got a lot of space and it's very easy to work in. Because of the way the PSU is in another compartment, the side with the window looks very clean and tidy. when you've finished. Airflow is good, I've added two 140mm fans from Corsair with the white LED's and it makes it look very smart. Bad points More options for Hard drives would be nice. The two slots at the bottom are the only places where you can put 3.5" HDD's is in the main area, in view. The hard drive bay in the rear section of the case only fits 2.5" drives (such as SSD's). For me, having the large HDD in the front takes a little bit of the 'clean' look I like about the case away. Also, because the PSU is much nearer to the mobo power ports, you'll have a lot of access cabling which makes the rear compartment a proper mess. 08 May 2015

I really like my fans in a case to be quiet, and the case itself, so I was wondering how loud it is and if I would need to change it

Answer:
The case has lots of 'open' areas due to the mesh so it could be quite loud. it all depends on the fans. I use corsair fans with the anti vibration corners and I can barely here them. My graphics card is the noisy part atm so it will be replaced sooner than planned.

Answer:
At full power, they are pretty loud. Mine spin up to full for a second when powered on and they sound like a jet engine.

Under normal loads? Practically silent. Theres a slight, soft hum that comes from the machine, but I suspect that's because of my H80i rather than the case fans.

Answer:
The fans that are in the case aren't actually that loud. As you would expect from a quality brand like Corsair with the more expensive stuff better fans are supplied. However I am no longer using the case fans that came with it, for the time I was using them I was having no issues with lots of sound coming from them. Now I have replaced the default ones with AF140 Silent Edition the case is virtually silent with the only sounds ever coming from my Radiator/Pump.

Answer:
Hi there,

The fans in this case are nice and quiet. Just ensure you don't plug them in to your "PWR_FAN" plug on the motherboard. Like anything plugged in to that, the fan will go to maximum.

If you're after a quiet case, this is one of the best. Competing options for the same volume are really only the 90 degree Silverstone cases like the FT02 and RV series cases.

Full tilt - theyre audiable, but I only game with a headset on, so I NEVER notice it.
Idling away at low RPMs?
I couldnt ask for much more from a free fan.

Bear in mind, these ARE corsair retail fans without the colour ring bells and rubber corner whistles.

As far as I know you don't need a specific one. I have an LG BH10LS38 blu ray drive I got a couple of years ago and just stuck that in without issue. I have to be a bit careful when putting the disk in to make sure it doesn't fall out, but once the drive is closed everything has worked fine.

Because of normal drive design, a shorter list would be ones that would not work. Take it as a given any will work and simply test it out before you put something important in it.

Answer:
There is a dust filter in the front that covers the main intake. It is a good filter from what I can tell and is keeping a lot of the dust out. You could fit a standard 120/140mm dust filter in the back of course depending on what size fans are in there. And the same with the top. I can also confirm that a 280mm dust filter will fit under the top cover for the top intake/out-take.

Yes, any 120mm or 140mm fan filter will fit on the back or top fans and the front comes with a filter. I'd recommend these filters as they are what I use for my corsair air 540.

Answer:
You could, I have this case an I do think that would be possible. However you would need to have some way of propping the bottom up so the air intake for the PSU isn't obstructed. Also the actual bottom of the case may not be the prettiest which might not be something that would bother you. Although you could cover it up with something of the same colour as there are holes there for the HHD hot-swap bays. I hope my answer was somewhat useful.

Answer:
Yes but I'd see about getting some rubber feet to stick to the side. This way you'll still get a little bit of airflow for the PSU exhaust.
GPU sag isn't an issue. Heavy coolers tend to come with a back plate in order to help brace the card anyway and I've never had a card noticably sag.
