PSUs (Power Supply Units)
PSUs (Power Supply Units)
Date Issued: 4th Jul 2011

Let's face it, power-supply units (PSUs) are boring. Presented in what's usually a mundane box spitting cables from one end, this is a product that's neither aesthetically pleasing nor technically interesting to the majority of self-builders.

Reviews
850W Corsair RM850x Series, Full Modular, 80PLUS Gold, SLI/CrossFire, Single Rail, 70.8A, 135mm Fan, ATX PSU is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very efficient This unit has excellent build quality. The PSU runs very cool and below 425watts of power draw, the fans do not spin. Good cabling. Efficiency, as many reviews will point out, is between 93% to 91% - so one of the best Gold certified PSUs. A decent warranty period and overall well worth purchasing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal PSU for self builds This Power Supply is fully modular, and comes with all cables and easy to follow guide. I fitted this to an existing build in about 20 minutes and was very happy with the final result. The long cables made it easy to tuck them away, maintaining a good airflow throughout the case.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, quiet power supply. Bought as replacement for a faulty XFX Pro. This power supply is quiet and efficient, haven't noticed any buzzing or other undue noises coming from it as mentioned in other reviews. The supplied cables are all decent lengths, easily enough to manage around all but the larger cases. It's unreasonable to ask for individually sheathed cables to come supplied, but rather than a mix of fully sheathed and flat, I would have preferred all flat-type cables personally. The sheathed cables (24-pin, CPU, PCIe) are my only real gripe with this purchase. The end seals for the sheathing are longer than is strictly necessary, thick and immobile; which makes cable management and connection to the motherboard especially kind of awkward if you're looking for cleanliness or tighter bends near the socket. If you're looking for uniformity, easier cable management or just cleaner lines for those tighter spaces; by all means buy this excellent PSU. Just make sure you buy a set of cables separately.
