Fluid Dyanamic Fan Bearing High performance Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) fans are designed to take advantage of the impact absorbance effects of oil. They are extremely reliable and generate considerably less operating noise and heat than ball bearing fans. The lubrication of the bearing surface reduces friction and vibration and therefore lowers overall power consumption. Due to the effortless, quieter rotations and its robust construction, this reliable fan technology also greatly increases the lifespan of the fan.
How it works When the fan shaft rotates, high pressure oil drifts along the grooves of the bearing sleeve to generate a thin layer of lubrication between the bearing faces. As the speed increases, so does dynamic oil pressure and the shaft is lifted from the bearing to create smooth, effortless rotations. The herringbone shape of the groves helps to efficiently channel the lubricant and avert leakage.
What is S3FC? The industry’s first, Seasonic patented, advanced three-phased thermal control balances between silence and cooling. This Hybrid Silent Fan Control functions in three operational stages: Fanless Mode, Silent Mode, and Cooling Mode. In addition, there is a switch provided to allow for manual selection between the Seasonic S2FC (fan control without Fanless Mode) and the S3FC (fan control including Fanless Mode).
New! Power saving by hysteresis Hysteresis is achieved by an additional fan control IC, which optimizes how frequently the fan switches on and off. At 25 °C ambient temperature the fan turns on when the load rises above 35 % (±5 %) and it turns off when the load drops below 25 % (±5 %). Due to this lag in response the fan switches on and off less frequently, which reduces noise and power loss in Fanless Mode and Silent Mode.
Ultra Stable Voltage Regulation Intel guidelines specify that the DC output voltages have to remain within the regulation range of +/- 5 %. However, power supply testers and reviewers prefer to have this allowance down to +/- 3 %. Seasonic has implemented and even stricter voltage regulation which entirely eliminates negative deviations and keeps voltage 80% tighter than Intel specifications and 66 % tighter than top reviewers recommend. The fully modular design make it good for a nice clean build, although the flat cables meant I had to adjust some of my cable routes.
It's quiet thanks to its hybrid mode that leaves the fan off until it hits a certain temperature.
It's a PSU so I'm not sure what else I can tell you about it. The reviews I read have stated a good level of voltage stability, but I can't attest to that.
My only problem, if you can call it that, with it is that it's white. It spoils the nice red and black theme I had going on. But then again, function over form.
