TekSpek Guides
Date Issued: 21st Oct 2008

You've probably read the USB Tekspek, and perhaps your intrigue, or product interest, has lead you to look up Firewire as well. The two are similar in some respects, particularly some of the products that use the two technologies. However, Firewire has its differences, which means it has both benefits and drawback when compared to USB. This Tekspek will look at Firewire and also look at it with respect to USB.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK Microsoft controller was not recognised through the hub. Might be an issue with Microsoft receiver but apart from that its a good device. All other devices work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent with just a couple of small issues pros: very sturdy metal design. plug and play. does what it says on the tin. comes with sticky strip to attatch to none flat surfaces. cons: For some reason, wouldnt function until windows 8.1 was FULLY updated. The USB cable is very short. A bit pricy for what it is but you get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Made This appears to be great quality, with a metal case and it feels solid. Using this with a USB switch it still powers all of the devices even when the connection is swapped. I've got a wireless charging pad connected to the powered port and it works well. It comes with a USB 3 cable for connecting it to your PC.

Questions & Answers

how bigs is the usb 3.0 cable from the icy box to the PC

how bigs is the usb 3.0 cable from the icy box to the PC and if i replaced it for a larger cable would it impact on performance as its further away , so if the original usb 3.0 cable was 1M and i replaced it with a 2M would it still work as good or would it be degraded in someway - i'm planing to use this with a Saitek X-55 and its very power hungry and a logitech G29 Steering wheel on the same hub and going by the picture would this cable fit for a replacement ?
Asked by: formula
The cable not including the plugs at either end is 60cm long, highly recommend buying a seperate cable unless you want the hub very close to the port. I have replaced the USB cable on mine (with a 3m cable) and it works perfectly well. It is currently controlling my mouse, keyboard, wacom, external hard drive and charging my tablet. no issue. I cant comment on your specific gear but i dont THINK there would be an issue. and if there is, you going to get that same issue with any USB hub.
