Solid-state drives (SSDs) are fast becoming the must-have PC components of 2010. Serving as primary storage space for high-end computers, SSD's super-fast transfer rates and near-instant accesses offer genuine advantages over traditional spindle-based magnetic drives.

A motherboard’s main job is to act as a conduit between the various hardware elements that make up a PC. It needs to be able to link the desired CPU(s), system memory, graphics card, hard drive(s), and add-in cards and enable them to work in harmony.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product It was delivered really quick, I installed it on the weekend and it's a very good product, it loads windows up really quick I am very pleased with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent quality very good quality m.2 ssd only issue is drivers for windows 7 needs to be installed on a pre partitioned hard drive for windows 7 windows 10 users no additional driver to install the os on the drive, but becomes slow with the windows 10 default driver, better add the samsung driver from their website for increased speed performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! For the price this is a fantastic bit of hardware! Super fast. The biggest downside is the green PCB if this mounts on the top of your motherboard. Luckily on the Strix board I am using it goes under a heat spreader and can't be seen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performance Installed Windows 10 from bootable USB stick straight onto this drive with no issues and got good speeds without having to manually install drivers (2500MB/s read, 1150MB/s write). I manually installed the latest NVMe Pro drivers from the Samsung website anyway and speeds changed ever so slightly depending on file size in benchmarks. Motherboard is an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming. The drive doesn't come with the M2 screw which is used to secure it flat to the motherboard, and I didn't get one with the motherboard, so I had to find a suitable screw in my 'bits and bobs' tin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it say on the tin This SSD reaches the advertised speeds in my system (using ATTO Disk Benchmark). There's not much to add except that if you've not seen an M2 SDD before, you will be surprised at how small it is. It's about the size of a single strip of gum, and is probably the most expensive thing I own that's so small. Make sure to read your motherboard manual for details on installing it, and bare in mind that in some motherboards, installing this card may disable some of your SATA ports (that's a limitation of your motherboard, not this SSD).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awsome performance I picked this up on offer at £179 and I have to say that I was not disappointed. I use it as a boot drive. File transfers are nearly instantaneous that I sort of miss the transfer window now :D. Very easy to install on a z170-AR mobo as the slot is at an easily accessible location. For a 512 m.2 NVMe it's definitely worth every penny especially if bought at the price I got it for :D

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightning fast Bought for an intel skulltrail nuc. Works perfectly with Linux. Fastest ssd I have ever used.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great performance once you download the appropriate drivers Once setup properly this drive is great. I get about 2,700mb/s sequential read speeds and 1,500mb/s sequential write speeds in the AS SSD test. The 4K speeds were even higher than those I've seen online for more expensive SSDs (while falling short in other tests). Just make sure that you download a Samsung driver, as when I was using the standard Windows 10 one I was getting exceptionally poor write speeds (something like 50mb/s from memory). I downloaded the Samsung 960 Evo driver from their website and it now tests just fine. I'm not sure if there is much difference in general use compared to a cheaper SSD, but I can say that Windows 10 boots up almost instantly, so have no real complaints.

Hi, am interested in this a boot drive for one of my rigs, is this compatible with MSI Z97 Gaming 5? if so will there be any speed penalty Thanks for your time & trouble AD
Asked by: Pliers
Hello, With the latest Bios updates this would be fine for a boot drive as the motherboard supports NVMe Boot, however we don't know if there would be any speed penalties. Regards,
