The arrival of the solid-state drive (SSD) has revolutionised the speed at which modern PCs perform common tasks. This is because SSDs have no moving parts, compared to larger, bulkier mechanical drives, thus they store information on memory chips. This means that accesses, reads and writes are many, many times faster

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent M.2 SSD! For £52.49 at the time of purchasing this, I'd say you really get your value for money - most other 500GB 2.5 SSDs are between £40 and £70 anyway, so if you have a motherboard with M.2 capability I'd 100% recommend buying this M.2 SSD rather than a "normal" 2.5 SSD. Personally, I utilised this M.2 SSD as dedicated storage for the operating system in my new build - and wow does it not disappoint! 500GB might be excessive just for the OS but in my experience I'd much rather have large volumes of extra space than the worry that the SSD will eventually run out of space over the next few years, which is what tends to happen with 120 odd GB SSDs. Any disadvantages, of which there are few that I've found at the time of writing, are far outweighed by the advantages of this excellent SSD. __________ Advantages: - Super easy setup. - Power and data cables not directly required like with hard drives and other 2.5 SSDs. - When dedicated to storing the operating system... wow this thing is speedy, boot times are so so fast. - Space saving, this thing really takes up no space whatsoever - with M.2 slots being flat on the motherboard you save a lot of space vs a "normal" HDD or SSD. ____________ Disadvantages: - Personally, in my specific build I've not come across any issues that I can add here. - This is not quite specific to this M.2 SSD, but more what motherboard you pair it with... don't assume that any same size M.2 slot as this device with an M.2 shield will support this device - on my build I had to use an M.2 slot that had a longer shield meaning I couldn't use the shield once I had installed the new standoff. But not the end of the world:) _____________________ My own user error as a tip: - Be careful to check which M.2 devices are supported by your motherboard, mine had three M.2 slots and one of them did not support this device... as I found out after foolishly installing in an incompatible M.2 slot, read the motherboard documentation... it's actually quite helpful, who knew! _________ Conclusion: 100% would recommend this!
