Strider Series - the SFX Form Factor Milestone

After successfully expanding and leading SFF(small form factor) cases and SFX PSU into the DIY (do it yourself) market, SilverStone engineers have continued their push for advancement in these categories by releasing a true upgrade-worthy small form factor power supply, the ST45SF-G. Despite being half the size of a regular ATX power supply, the ST45SF-G can still produce continuous power output of 450W. Its 80 PLUS Gold level efficiency is a great leap from the previous SFX best of 80 PLUS Bronze and the full modular cables is also the first of its kind for this form factor. To enable users to easily take advantage of this excellent SFX power supply, an adapter is included to convert ST45SF-G to mount in any ATX case in addition to ones that fit only SFX. For SFF users and for SilverStone, the ST45SF-G is more than just an upgrade, it is an important milestone for DIY desktop computer.

• Support standard SFX form factor and ATX via included bracket
• 80 PLUS Gold level efficiency (87%~90% efficiency at 20%~100% loading)
• 100% modular cables
• 450W continuous power output at 40? operating temperature rated for 24/7 operation
• Class-leading single +12V rail with 37A
• Strict ±3% voltage regulation and low ripple & noise
• Silent running 80mm fan with 18dBA minimum
• Single PCI-E 8pin and dual PCI-E 6pin connectors support
• Active PFC

Power Supply units
Date Issued: 28th Apr 2020

Power-supply units, or PSUs, are an integral part of any computer build. Often overlooked, it is the component that is likely to last the longest, and it can be moved between systems when you upgrade to the latest and greatest in the future.

80 Plus certification
80 Plus certification
Date Issued: 18th Nov 2010

Conceived back in 2004 and brought to market just a year later, the 80 PLUS initiative is one of many standards introduced in an effort to increase energy efficiency in modern technology. Targeting computer power supplies, it awards PSUs that are able to achieve an energy efficiency of over 80 per cent at varying workloads and a power factor of 0.9 or more at 100 per cent load.

450W SilverStone SST-ST45SF-G Strider Series PSU, 80 PLUS Gold, Fully Modular, Single Rail, 37.5A, +12V, SFX is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent power supply Small size high power, good performance. Excellent service from supplier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good SFX PSU but pricey I bought this to partner a DS380 case as I knew space would be limited so the modular cables would help and I thought Gold rating would be helpful in a server. It's really over-specced for what I need so it'll never be stressed. I had all eight drives running flat out, copying data between two RAIDs plus the CPU running [email protected] and the PSU didn't even get warm (or noisy). The only thing I regret is buying the extra short cable set - it wasn't needed as the supplied cables are the same length.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's dead Jim Purchased for HTPC, nice and quiet. BUT 13 months later it's dead, still getting 5v on USB, but no joy turning machine on, swapped out for another spare supply and all working fine. There was a few unexpected shutdowns in the month proceeding, which in retrospect is likely a good sign that it was dying. Went to look at returning it, and lo and behold a measly 12 month warranty, I think this tells you all you need to know about this PSU, in contrast Seasonic offer 7 years on some of their supplies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome This sfx psu was for my htpc, changed it for the stock one that came with the case as it was a CIT type which was was terrible and very loud while this one is silent even with the fan spinning. Thanks to the smart setup in it the fan doesn't even spin until it hits 30 degrees. It's fully modular which was great as I didn't need all the cables so it helped with airflow not being packed with cables inside the case. Runs my overclocked dual core CPU and nvida gtx 660 gpu no problem. Would recommend to anyone who was setting up a htpc or small form factor pc

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Most powerful SFF PSU, but at a price! 450 watt, gold certificate, modular, what more could you want? I'll tell you - Silence! It's the only thing that this little PSU doesn't do. Fan sounds like a hoover at idle and worse when gaming or god forbid it gets hot! Modular Cables are something you want for a normal PC build, but might be a problem here. The slots for the modular leads on the PSU cover up almost all the surface on one of the sides. The only way they help is that you have an option not to have any molex leads coming out of the PSU (or now that I think about it, you wouldn't need the GPU lead if you're running integrated graphics). The non modular version have all the leads come out as a bundle, taking up less space out of the PSU, but you'll have to hide the leads you're not using. The less expansive and quieter 400 watt version will be better for you unless you are really pushing more than 400 watts under heavy load. If Scan allowed me to return this and get a 400 watt non modular bronze, i'd do it in a heart beat, but since I've thrown away the box this is not an option. TL:DR Unless you really need the full 450W of this PSU you'd be better off with the 400 bronze version

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect small form factor psu I use this psu in a coolermaster elite 130 case and it is ideal. The fully modular cables are a big advantage as it enables good cable management and more space for cooling.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good quality but not very quiet. I bought as a replacement for the standard 300W supply that came with the Silverstone SG06. Considering the form factor, and the high probability of this being part of a media centre build, you might expect a much quieter power supply. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't sound like a hairdryer, and it does feel like a quality bit of kit. But it isn't cheap, so I can't really say anything except look for an ITX case that doesn't need an SFX power supply if noise is a priority concern. You will hear it in the "quiet" parts in films, and yes I might be fussy, it just bothers me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't fault it My son has built me my new computer with this fabulous power supply. Everything works well together, speedy, quiet, economical to run. Brilliant

Is this the v2.0 model?

Silverstone released a v2.0 revision of this PSU earlier this month (July '13) to address fan noise and fan ramping issues, and claim all major UK retailers have stock. Can you confirm please if this is the v2.0? If not, do you have an ETA on when you'll receive v2.0 stock? Thanks
Asked by: Ross
It is the V2 model. I hate to think what the V1 sounded like.
