Dead on ArrivalI have seen a few reports of drives been DOA, but thought they were in the minority.
I have now also experienced a DOA drive.
I have completed routine check, different cables, different computer. but nope its dead.
That said, I am confident that scan will provide me with the usual excellent service and either replace with same or different one.

drive failureDrive failed after 3 weeks. Fortunately it was backed up. Very disappointing as Barracudas are my go to drive but this was my first 2TB drive. I usually stick with 1TB. Maybe just a bad batch

Great product, great serviceBeen a Seagate fan for years, had the odd failure but that has to be expected, had 3 of these in the last 12 months and all are still going strong in various PCs/NAS, good value drive, would recommend the drive ad Scan's service, DPD delivery ain't bad either, text received in the morning and drive delivered early afternoon, can't ask for more than that

Works as expectedBought this HDD after my old one started to fail (also a Seagate) and so far it is working very well. It seems faster than my old HDD and is definitely quieter, however when first starting it up it does make a very high pitched whine. Any problems I had setting it up were due to my own inexperience.

Needed a upgrade! If you're a PC gamer like myself and you need a dedicated gaming HDD, then this one has served me so well so far! I was having to uninstall games I rarely play just to free up more space. Now I have a dedicated HDD for just my games, which frees my others for my files.
Reliable, installed right out the gate after a quick format on Windows 7, Cut my loading times in games by almost half! And even more in games such as DOOM 4, probably a nice budget alternative to a Solid State drive.
I don't think I'll ever fill this thing... Recommended

Any sata 3 6gb/s cable will do everything you want it to. Any other options depend on your build and how you want it to look.

what are these drives like
i personally have always been a fan of wd black. its just i find myself in a position where cost is an issue.
can some one tell me what are these drives like are they any good what's the reliability like, and how do they compare to a wd black. its manly for gaming, any advice would be welcome thankyou

I'm not 100% sure on reliability but I had another Seagate HDD for 5 years so I'm hoping this one will last just as long. I also use this HDD for gaming and I haven't had any problems. It seems quick and quiet.

SATA 2 or 3 Mb
How recent is SATA 3? I have a workstation a few years old that needs some additional storage. I assume it's SATA 2. I have no plans to build a new PC so apart from future proofing drive usability is there any point in buying a couple of these?
Asked by: roy12345Longenough
SATA 3 Drives have a read speed of approx 6Mb/s whereas SATA 1 & 2 drives are only 3Mb/s as you can imagine much slower than the 3's.
The problem you have is where SATA 3's are backward compatible if your machine is only a 1 or 2 SATA then you'll only be reading at the 3Mb/s speed but it does mean they should last longer in theory.

Compatible with PS4?
Is this hard drive compatible with the Playstation 4 and is it faster that the stock hard drive in the PS4?
I'm looking for a good upgrade from the standard PS4 500gb hard drive and wondered if this was the best choice?
Asked by: PD316
The ST2000DM001 is to large for the PS4 (3.5"). Look into getting a 2.5" drive. For example:
