Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great hybid drive This SSHD is perfect, performs very well, is faster than my standard Seagate 2TB HDD, great value

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It hasn't broken yet after a couple of months - which amazes me, by today's standards of HDD. It replaces a sorry litany of SSDs which seem to last 6 months max - and seems to be about as fast e.g. to boot from.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A New Lease of Life for an Old System I have recently rebuilt an old PC with an Athlon 64x2 3 GHz cpu on an Asus MPNPV motherboard. The mobo only supports 3Gb SATA and I was pretty skeptical about the benefits of fitting an expensive modern drive. The practical result of running this drive with Windows 10 at half of it's potential throughput has far, far exceeded all my expectations. The hybrid acts as my C: drive. I generally run a copy of Excel, a copy of Word and MediaMonkey plus Chrome with a few open tabs all day long. It takes about 35 seconds to boot and then runs with a real snap about it. For mixed office work I cannot fault the performance of this drive and I would buy another one without hesitation and quite frankly I would prefer to have one of these to the Patriot Blast SSD in one of my other machines. I strongly recommend considering one of these as a better alternative to a 240 Gb SSD main drive. For day to day work the only place you notice the advantage of pure SSD is at boot time. I have two similar PCs (both with 3Gb SATA) and the SSD C: drive boots in about 10 seconds versus some 35 seconds for the hybrid. Once they're running the 8 times larger hybrid must be the winner. Don't hesitate - get one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet and fast Copying from an existing nearly-full 1TB disk was painless using Paragon utilities. With the Seagate I can no longer hear any head movement and the disk is almost as quiet as my SSD. So pretty-much absolute silence from my fanless PC.

If you want a big one for your steam library, I can safely recommend this one - it doesnt have any bells or whistles but for a library hard drive it works like a charm IMO

is this sshd suitable as a second drive

I have a samsung 840 pro ssd for my operating system and I am after a fast second drive to load some applications quickly, video transcoding avchd to mp4, video editing, storing photos and videos. The applications I want to store on this drive are short term, hence intend to remove/replace them with some other applications in future. That is why I do not want to store these applications on my ssd. Thus I am trying to choose between this and the barracuda 3tb which would be best for a second drive?
Asked by: fifo
I would say Yes, it is basically SSD Perfomance and HDD Storage, bear in mind the more used the software on the drive is, the more likely it is to be moved to the SSD portion to improve the performance.
