The GS728TP is a 24-port Gigabit PoE Smart Managed Switch equipped with four dedicated Gigabit SFP ports to support fibre uplinks and flexible network topologies. Part of NETGEAR’s ProSAFE® range of Gigabit PoE and PoE+ Smart Managed Switches, it is positioned for environments that require power delivery and data connectivity from a single access layer device. With full Gigabit connectivity across all copper ports and built-in support for converged voice, video, and data traffic, the GS728TP is intended for business networks deploying IP phones, wireless access points, and video systems alongside standard Ethernet devices, while retaining managed switching control and fibre expansion options.

Port and PoE+ Configuration

This model offers 24 auto-sensing 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ-45 ports plus 4 dedicated 1 Gbps SFP fibre ports. All 24 copper ports support Power over Ethernet; Ports 1–8 deliver IEEE 802.3at PoE+ (up to 30 W), while Ports 9–24 provide IEEE 802.3af PoE (up to 15.4 W). The total internal PoE power budget is 192 W.

Switching and Performance

The GS728TP delivers a 56 Gbps switching bandwidth and supports a comprehensive suite of Layer 2+/Layer 3 Lite features. It has a non-blocking architecture with an 8 K MAC address table, support for up to 256 VLANs, 32 static routes and 1,024 multicast groups, enabling robust packet handling and traffic segmentation.

Management and Protocol Support

Management is provided via a web-based GUI and the NETGEAR Smart Control Center, with support for standard network protocols including IGMP and MLD snooping, DHCP filtering, ACLs, VLAN tagging, LLDP-MED, and IPv4/IPv6 traffic control. Dynamic VLAN assignment, Auto Voice and Auto Video VLANs improve deployment for VoIP and IP-video applications.

Hardy Rackmount Design

Physically, the switch is rack-mountable and designed for SMB environments. It includes four fibre uplink ports for flexible network topology and supports energy-efficient Ethernet per IEEE802.3az. Built-in features like dual firmware images and a PoE timer provide additional control and resilience.
