Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD

250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD

3D V-NAND Flash Memory

3D V-NAND Flash Memory 3D V-NAND is a unique and innovative flash memory architecture from Samsung, it’s advanced enough to overcome the density limitations, performance and endurance of the conventional NAND architecture. In the 850 EVO 250GB SSD the 32 cell layers are stacked vertically over one another; this allows better performance and higher densities due to the smaller footprint.

Turbowrite Technology

TurboWrite

Maximise Your Everyday Computing

Samsung TurboWrite Technology allows you to achieve the ultimate read / write performance that will maximise your everyday computing, this allows the 850 EVO 250GB to obtain 1.9x faster random write speeds. The 850 EVO SSD delivers top of the class performance in sequential read (540 MB/s) and write (520 MB/s) speeds. Plus, in all QD for client PC usage scenario’s you gain optimised random performance.

Samsung 850 EVO - Rapid mode

Rapid Mode

2x Faster Processing Speeds

Rapid Mode from Samsung provides 2x faster processing data speeds on a system level by utilising unused PC memory usage (DRAM) as cache storage. The maximum memory usage in Rapid Mode has increased from 1 GB, in the 840 EVO version, up to 4 GB in the 850 EVO when using 16GB of DRAM, another advantage is you get 2x the performance in all random queue depth.

850 EVO Features

Improved Energy Efficiency

Compute Longer with Improved Energy Efficiency

The 850 EVO is now 25% more power efficient than the older 840 EVO during write operations thanks to the 3D V-NAND only consuming half the energy than the 2D V-NAND. The Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD also delivers longer battery life using a controller optimised for 3D V-NAND now enabling device sleep at a highly efficient 2 mW.

Secure Data - AES 256 Encryption

Secure Valuable Data Using AES 256 Encryption

The 850 EVO comes fortified with the latest hardware-based full disk encryption engine. The AES 256 encryption-bit security technology secures data without any performance degradation and complies with TCG Opal 2.0. It is also compatible with Microsoft e-drive IEEE1667 so your data is protected at all times for your peace of mind.

5 Year Warranty

Guaranteed Endurance and Reliability

The 850 EVO delivers guaranteed endurance and reliability by doubling the TBW compared to the previous generation 840 EVO backed by an industry leading 5 year warranty. The 850 EVO through minimised performance degradation allows sustained performance improvements of up to 30% over the 840 EVO proving to be one of the most dependable storage devices.

Dynamic Thermal Guard

Protected from Overheating - Dynamic Thermal Guard

The 850 EVO's Dynamic Thermal Guard constantly monitors and maintains ideal temperatures for the drive to operate in optimal conditions for the integrity of your data. When temperatures rise above an optimal threshold, the Thermal Guard automatically throttles temperatures down protecting your data while maintaining responsiveness to ensure your computer is always safe from overheating.

Installation

Level up to the 850 EVO simply without any hassle

In three simple steps the Samsung’s One-stop Install Navigator software easily allows you to migrate all the data and applications from the existing primary storage to the 850 EVO. The Samsung Magician software also allows you to optimise and manage your system best suited for your SSD.

Top-Quality Components

In-house solution consisting of top-quality components

Samsung is the only SSD brand to design and manufacture all its components in-house allowing complete optimised integration. The result - enhanced performance, lower power consumption with up to 1 GB LPDDR2 DRAM cache memory and improved energy-efficiency with the MEX / MGX controller.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great SSD I replaced an existing system drive with this larger capacity drive as my old one was full. It's a little more expensive than some others but very good specification and build quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good SSD This is one of the fastest SSDs I've ever used. I can't rate it highly enough...compared to some other more expensive ones, this blows them away and at a decent price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effective and quick I had the previous generation of this drive which worked well. This one seems pretty similar. I haven't got it running is the fastest mode yet and it seems quick enough for general use. With HDDs, reliability is key and only time will tell how dependable it is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This was selected to replace a 60gig SSD. Selected this because it represented good value and good speeds (according to specs) and it is 3XS approved Outstanding response to my order. When I bought my 60gig SSD they were very expensive hence only 60gig. Now they are more reasonably priced and offer good capacities. This drive comes with software on CD. However there are some shortcomings. It states The Samsung Data Migration software is designed to help users quickly, easily, and safely migrate all of their data – including their current operating system, application software, and user data – from their existing storage device (e.g. HDD) to their new Samsung SSD. This software will run only if the operating system is installed on the Source Disk. It will not function on disks that lack an operating system installation. If the amount of data stored on the Source Disk exceeds the capacity of the Target Disk, cloning will not proceed. [Obviously] Here's the snag The Source Disk (e.g. “C:” drive) must consist of at least 20% free space. If more than 80% of the Source Disk is filled with data, the cloning process cannot proceed normally. My 60gig is close to full. I would need 12 gig free for this software to work, and if you had a 250gig drive you would need 50 gig free. Ridiculous ! So you may need alternative cloning software Consequently haven't installed it yet!

Does this come with a 3.5" conversion kit?

Asked by: Pete399
No, I''m afraid it does not. Just the SSD and disc utility.

This model and Mac Pro?

Silly questions I'm sure but....will this fit (with a 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor obviously) a Mac Pro 3.1 (early 2008) tower and will it actually work as the Mac only runs Sata 3Gbps. I'm sort of assuming it will, but slightly slower?
Asked by: MrTomsFunnyScene
Hello, and it's not a silly question at all. This device should work in your Mac Pro like any SATA HDD however you are correct in assuming it will be limited to 3Gbps. Although not running at it's maximum potential you should still notice an increase in performance, especially in boot times.
