The SilverStone RM22-312 is a compact 2U rackmount storage chassis built for high-density NAS, file-server, and professional storage deployments. Its standout design combines twelve hot-swap drive bays, a 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA backplane, and broad motherboard and power-supply compatibility in a standard 19-inch rack enclosure.

High-density 12-bay Storage

The front panel accommodates twelve 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SAS/SATA HDDs or SSDs in hot-swappable trays. This lets administrators replace or add drives without shutting down the system, making the chassis well suited to storage servers where uptime and serviceability matter.

12 Gb/s Mini-SAS HD Backplane

A 12-port SAS/SATA backplane routes all drives through three Mini-SAS HD SFF-8643 connectors and supports SGPIO for drive-status communication. The 12 Gb/s interface provides substantial bandwidth for RAID arrays, high-throughput NAS builds, and storage systems using SAS HBAs or RAID controllers.

Hot-swap Drive Trays and Status LEDs

Each drive bay uses a tray with a handlebar for straightforward front access, while independent LEDs provide per-drive status. This makes it easier to identify a failed or active disk during maintenance without opening the chassis or consulting software alone.

Front-to-back Airflow and Cooling

The RM22-312 uses a conventional front-to-back airflow path and includes three 80 mm x 38 mm hot-swappable PWM fans. The PWM control allows fan speed to adjust with thermal load, while the hot-swap design enables fan replacement during operation.

Broad Motherboard Support

The chassis supports motherboards from Mini-ITX up to E-ATX and SSI-EEB, giving builders flexibility across consumer, workstation, and server platforms. It also supports CPU coolers up to 68 mm tall, which is appropriate for many low-profile server-class cooling solutions.

Rack-ready Expansion and I/O

Seven low-profile PCI/PCIe slots provide room for HBAs, RAID controllers, network cards, or other expansion cards. The front panel includes two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports for convenient local access to external devices or diagnostics.

Flexible 2U Power-supply Configuration

The enclosure supports either a 2U single power supply or a 2U redundant power-supply setup. Redundant power is particularly valuable in production storage environments, where a PSU failure should not take the entire storage node offline.
