Now most people would consider £150 to be a large price for a motherboard, but not in this case. That price is getting you one of the best 1150 motherboards available! Loads of connectivity options, really great overclocking potentials, red hot looks, super stability and performance. I've always been an ROG fan and this hasn't failed to disappoint either. I wouldn't use anyone else's boards now. I highly recommend it!

Well where can i start! This motherboard is fantastic, it is a rock solid platform for my build and is very well made. The audio solution is amazing and all the included software and drivers make for one great combo! The overclocking on this board is also really great and is simple and easy to do with the Asus UEFI. In my system i am using a i7 4770k overclocked to 4.2ghz @ 1.155 volts, 8gb kingston hyperX beast 2133mhz, coolermaster seidon 240m closed loop CPU cooler, Asus GTX 770 DirectCU ii OC and a Corsair CS750M PSU. It supports all this hardware and i am very happy with it and my system is so good. It is also running Windows 7 Ultimate.

this was purchased as an upgrade from my old faithful evga 680i ended up buying the 4.2gig bundle deal. For an entry level board in the ROG range I was rather surprised at how well it was built also having a great range of features

I've been building PC's for a lot of years, but this was my first encounter with an Asus mobo.
After the launch of the Z87 chipset / Socket 1150 boards I'd had a few problems with another brand, so decided to pay a little more for this entry level model from the Asus Republic of Gamers range.
And what a great mobo it is, I'm extremely impressed by the range of features and options. Although this is the entry level ROG model it has a lot of high end stuff, and I think it's great value for money.
Board layout is sensible and fairly uncluttered, although as with many mobos if you have a large CPU cooler you will probably need low-profile RAM. Component quality appears to be very high and overall the board feels and looks solid. The red / black colour scheme is also nice.
Performance and options are very good. The Haswell CPU's are not great overclockers, but the variety of tweaks in the UEFI BIOS means stable overclocks on air of more than 20% are easy to do - which seems slightly better than competitors boards at this price point.
I like the included software which makes overclocking to 4.2, 4.4 or 4.6 as simple as clicking a button (which some people may prefer over tweak the BIOS directly). One thing I have been really impressed with is the onboard sound. Compared to my Xonar DGX it is very good and if I didn't already have the Xonar I would probably not bother with a separate sound card.
The number of ports and connectors are extensive with two features to note... Being able to charge devices via USB while the PC is off is really handy; and the easy flash BIOS option. It's fairly standard to have LED status indicators on the board these days, but still a nice feature, especially when experimenting with settings.
I've used mobos from just about every top manufacturer, but I can safely say that an Asus ROG board will be one of the first I check out for any future builds.

Whilst no the top end of the ROG range this board offers as much tweaking as anyone could need for £50 less than the top end. Bios updates are frequent currently but that will no doubt tail off. One thing that is slightly vexing first time around is the bios will reboot up to 5 times when any changes are made before it boots into the OS, very worrying initially!!

This motherboard just cause problems on and on again. After switching the system off it decides to keep the power running and all. Even after the newest BIOS update it still does that! I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING IT!

Im happy with my purchase so far, not played around with it much yet to give a in depth evaluation, went from a MSI Z87 45G to this Asus Hero Z87 as it had a few feature i wanted and was curious about the onboard sound as it supposed to be better than the average, well to be fair having owed the Asus DX2 i have to say its not that bad, and at the moment im happy enough to use it until i get some cash for the Asus essence, have no issues to report yet, i have mine running at 4.4 using one of the fixed option that lets you boost at 4.2 4.4 or 4.6 not had time to manually overclock also dont feel the need, but will do at some point, its as nice looking board and a nice layout that suit my needs
