Akasa AK-ICR-07U3 3.5" Black Internal Multi Card Reader M2, Micro SD & USB 3.0 port via passthrough is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good reader but take care with the CF slot Purchased this product as a direct replacement to one which had sustained a damaged pin in the CF card slot. Fitting and connecting the unit was very straightforward and worked exactly as expected. The only problem I have with this unit is the CF card slot has only a very short guide before the CF card pins locate which can (and did) cause slight misalignment to the pins. The CF card sticks right out of the unit which could be damaged if not careful. This seems a small point but if you use the CF slot regularly as I do, eventually it will cause a problem. If I were designing my system again from scratch I may look for an alternative. other than that this card reader is good quality and value at the price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from USB 3.0 does not have a mother board connector The quality of this item is good, and it is working right now. It was not clear that the card reader runs at USB2.0 speeds and the USB3.0 does not attach the motherboard, it has a USB socket connector. This is good and bad, it does not tie-up my motherboard connector for only one USB port. But I do need to buy an additional cable to use it. i.e. 19Pin/20Pin Female Header to Dual USB3.0 for an additional £7 (approx).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Take care with engaging memory card, last unit was damaged by insertion. Somewhat fragile design of sockets as they are liable to incorrect insertion. never happens in the camera: needs a deeper feed in in my opinion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Neat all in one card reader / USB3 Very smart unit that fits perfectly in a 3.5" bay and provides interface for many different memory cards and USB3 devices. I'd say the only drawback is you have to post the USB3 cable out of the back of your case and plug it into a spare USB3 port but once it's in and you have the case pushed back to the wall you don't see it anyway. Otherwise it's a really cool neat bit of kit for the price, very good value for money.

Does this have to be connected to both the USB 2.0 header and the USB 3.0 header or can it run off of the USB 3.0 header alone?

Asked by: kiebot
I'm not a tech guy, but I'm sure it was only connected to the USB3 header.
