Cloud Collaboration
Blackmagic Cloud
The new DaVinci Resolve 18 supports Blackmagic Cloud. This feature means you can host your project libraries on the DaVinci Resolve Project Server within the cloud. Share your projects and work collaboratively with editors, colourists, VFX artists and audio engineers on the same project. This tool is in real-time, allowing you to share at the same time, anywhere in the world!
Remote Monitoring Streaming
Live stream your DaVinci Resolve Studio viewer and display via DeckLink to anywhere in the world! You can do this by using a remote computer monitor, or a reference grading monitor. The powerfully low latency and high-quality 10-bit image is ideal for remote colour grading or editing, allowing you to see instant feedback on changes.
BlackMagic Proxy Generator
This new app automatically creates and manages proxies from camera originals. To use this feature, you create a watch folder and new media is automatically converted into H.264, H.265 or ProRes proxies to drive your editing workflows. You can even extract proxies into separate folders for offline working!
Intelligent Media Management
Give yourself more time for creativity with DaVinci Resolve 18’s intelligent media location management. When working collaboratively, there’s no need to manually relink or search for assets, you can quickly link media to your unique file paths!
Shared Project Libraries
Creative decisions can be made in real-time. The collaboration update provides major performance enhancements if you are using a secure private network. When collaborating, get immediate updates of editorial and colour changes when working on a remotely hosted project library.
Simplified Proxy Workflow
With Blackmagic Proxy Generated proxies, you can switch between camera original footage and proxies in a single click. DaVinci Resolve knows where in the file tree to find them, instantly linking to the camera originals in the media pool. Edit with proxies, then relink to camera originals to grade!
Colour
Intuitive Object Mask
This feature is located in the magic mask palette. The new object mask is able to identify and track the movement of thousands of unique objects. The DaVinci Neural Engine cleverly recognises animals, people, vehicles, food and countless other elements for advanced secondary grading and effects application.
Automatic Depth Map
Instantly generate a 3D depth map of a scene with the new depth map feature. This allows you to quickly grade the foreground separately from the background, and vice versa. Use depth map to help interview subjects stand out or add atmosphere in the background of a scene.
Tracking Moving Warped Surfaces
Apply graphics, cover up logos, and even composite tattoos with this powerful tracking tool! The surface tracker’s customisable mesh follows the motion of a textured surface, like t-shirts, flags, even the side profile of a face. This allows you to apply graphics to surfaces that warp or change perspective in dramatic ways.
Updated Resolve FX Beauty
The ultra beauty tool helps to address general imperfections by smoothing the skin and recovering the detail to produce natural and complimentary results to the subject. This feature has been developed with professional colourists, giving you advanced control over a subject when performing corrective beauty work.
Edit
Enhanced Subtitles
Now including TTML and XML timed texts and embedded MXF/IMF subtitles. View and import subtitles from your media storage, generate regions to support multiple simultaneous captions per track, and set individual presets and text positions when indicating between different speakers.
Reverse Shape, Iris and Wipe Transitions
Giving you additional flexibility, transitions in the effects library’s shape, iris and wipe categories now have a checkbox. This allows you to easily reverse the direction of the transition, adding to your creative possibilities.
View 25 Simultaneous Multicam Angles
A new 5x5 option in the multicam viewer now allows you to view up to 25 different angles in a single multicam clip at the same time. Ideal for large multicam projects, this makes viewing, cutting and switching between more angles much easier, rather than moving between pages to see different angles.
YouTube and QuickTime Chapter Markers
Making viewing easy for your audience. When delivering to QuickTime formats or uploading directly to YouTube, you can choose to automatically create chapter markers from one set of coloured timeline markers. All you need to do is add and rename markers to your timeline.
Fusion
GPU Accelerated Paint
GPU acceleration in DaVinci Resolve 18, allows paint brush strokes to be created and displayed in real-time. Instant visual feedback allows you to access your work and make corrections in any stroke style or shape, giving you an intuitive approach when carrying out graphic design or cover up work.
Text and Shape Acceleration
Improved text, text+ and shape templates have enhanced speed and playback performance in DaVinci Resolve 18. New data handling and memory management means that Fusion templates are up to 200% faster. You can see accelerated results in the viewer and put together motion graphic compositions are faster than ever!
Fairlight
Convert Legacy Projects to FlexBus
FlexBus is Fairlight’s flexible audio channel and routing system. It’s designed for managing high track counts, extensive plug-in processing, multiple project deliverables and perfect synchronisation. Allowing you to now efficiently convert legacy fixed bus Fairlight projects to FlexBus with a single click.
Automatic Binaural Rendering
You can now render a Dolby 7.1.4 mix to playback in a pair of headphones whilst maintaining the immersive sound experience from just two audio channels! This expansion of Dolby Atmos deliverable toolset has been to support rendering of a binaural output from a Dolby Atmos mix.
Decomposition of Nested Timelines
Nested timelines can now be decomposed with all track data including FX and automation. The new options in the decompose menu enhance collaboration allowing editors to compile their work to a single timeline. Assignments will connect using new audio channels, existing paths or new tracks can be left unpatched.
Innovative Space View 3D Display
DaVinci Resolve supports the latest industry standard audio formats natively, including immersive audio formats like Dolby Atmos, Auro 3D, MPEG-H, NHK 22.2, and SMPTE. The space view scope displays a real time view of every object and its relationship to the room and other objects in 3D space.

DaVinci Resolve provides some of the most intelligent AI and advance feature algorithms available in post-production. These tools produce quick and accurate results that will heighten the visual quality of your project whilst saving you hours of time. Take control of the timeline
Smart Insert
Let DaVinci Resolve take control of where the clip needs to go. This is perfect for quick edits, placing the clip in the nearest edit.
Append to End
Immediately add a clip to the very end of the timeline, for building out an edit incredibly quickly.
Ripple Overwrite
Instantly replace a clip with another on the timeline, even if it’s a different length. Resolve will adjust the timeline to accommodate it.
Close Up
Want to create two shots out of the single one you got originally? Shoot wide, get a sneaky zoom with this function.
Place on Top
Place a source on top of the background in the timeline, without having to drag and drop into place.
Source Overwrite
This is brilliant for those that use sync timecodes and multiple cameras, as Resolve will automatically match source to timeline and places it on top.
Facial Recognition
Using DaVinci Neural Engine you can now use facial recognition to create media bins for individuals based on their face. This really cuts down on time spent organising your media and makes it much easier to edit quickly.
Frame.io integration
Don’t bog you or your team down when you’re in the middle of an edit and need feedback. Don’t confuse a client by sending them a link to a Dropbox or Google Drive where you’ve forgotten the permissions. DaVinci Resolve supports Frame.io, a collaborative piece of software that annotates and shares videos.
Custom Sizes
DaVinci Resolve's ability to deal with multiple timelines at once helps with modern social media requirements. In the same Project you can set different timelines at different resolutions to meet the needs of vertical, square and landscape video.
DaVinci Resolve Keyboard and Speed Editor
The DaVinci Resolve Editor Keyboard and Speed Editor are built from the ground up to be used with Blackmagic Design’s excellent video editing software, slotting straight into the workflow perfectly for the new DaVinci Resolve 18.
