The ’H6’ from Zoom, is a portable recording system which hands you all the tools you could need to capture professional-quality audio anywhere imaginable. The H6 also features 4 XLR/TRS combo inputs and integrated microphone preamps to provide a solid foundation for connecting studio mics or taking a feed from line-level equipment. Additionally, an XY mic module is included too, allowing you to swap out with further aftermarket input modules.

On the H6’s chassis alone you’ll find 4 combo jacks, each with its own dedicated volume dial and switchable -20dB pad. With all these inputs you’ll have no problems connecting anything from phantom-powered condenser mic’s to red-hot line-level sources.
Even more impressive is the H6’s modular expansion port, this enables you to connect mic’s such as the included XY capsule. With regards to monitoring, you’ll find both a line and a headphones out, alongside an integrated speaker for mono playback.
Always Ready to Record
never miss a thingThere’s something naturally unpredictable when it comes to field recording, which makes it incredibly easy to miss critical takes. As such, you’ll be thrilled to hear Zoom included 3 powerful recording modes to alleviate the stress of lost, or ruined recording opportunities. ‘Pre-record’, ‘backup-record’ and ‘auto-record’. In ‘pre-record’ mode, the H6 is continuously buffering the last two seconds of audio, which is included in each recording made. What does this actually mean? Even if you hit record late, you’re still likely to capture the 2 seconds prior!
Similarly, the H6’s ‘backup-record’ function records a separate stereo mix at 12cB down from the settings you currently have selected. This means that if a sudden spike in the signal causes your input to clip, you’ll still have a clean backup to work with! Lastly, ‘Auto-record’ starts recording whenever the input volume passes a certain threshold.
Versatile USB Audio Interface
Cubase LE includedZoom’s H6 isn’t just a spectacular field recorder, it’s much more than that! It’s also a portable USB audio interface! Because the H6 is class compliant, this means you can connect the H6 to just about any Mac or Windows PC, or even your iPad (Apple Camera Connection Kit required), and enjoy upto 6 inputs and 2 outputs right in to your DAW of choice. Don’t have a DAW of choice? No worries, Zoom included Steinberg’s Cubase LE to get you up and running!
Even more than this, the H6’s onboard processing is available for use even when being used an interface, meaning you’re able to track with compression, limiting and filtering. The zero-latency input monitoring makes recording even easier, alongside a handy ‘loop back’ mode which allows you to mix and record a stereo signal over USB along with the H6’s inputs.
