Chassis Airflow
Chassis Airflow
Date Issued: 20th Oct 2008

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Watercooling
Date Issued: 19th Jun 2008

Watercooling for the PC has been around for years in some form or another, for at least as long as Scan have been in business, with basic physics defining why you want to use it. That means for air cooling, to cope with increasing temperature in the heatsink you need to move the air across it faster. That is why thermostatically controlled fans in your PC will turn faster the hotter something gets.

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by This case case is great. Easy enough to install all my hardware and the cables are hidden well. 14 March 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant product! The Zalman 11 has a stylish build, looks great! The lighting compliments the case brilliantly. I'd highly recommend this product, fantastic quality for money. I was tied between this and a more expensive case, after seeing them both set up, I went for the Zalman without question. In pictures, the 'lip' on the top/front of the case may seem quite dominating, though in person it really doesn't look to overhang as much as the pictures seem to suggest, The only issue I've found is that the hooks to detatch the back of the case were very stiff at first, though they caused no real issue and, after all, you want the back to be secure - right? Great case! If you're after an attractive black case with blue lighting, look no further! 22 September 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great product for the price This was my first ever PC build and for my build I chose this case. It was rather good, good sturdy build quality, spacious, could do with better air flow though. Cable management is good with all the little loop holes on the cable side of the case. LEDs aren't very bright and barely noticeable in the day. The window could be positioned better but it does allow for a good view of the components. Overall, it's great for a new budget case and does its job. However, if you can afford to get a better case, do it. Airflow is rather important as I have now realised. I didn't look into much of the important stuff of the case when I was deciding however it does the job. 29 July 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good case but... This case is a good case but, there are a few little niggles I have with it, the roof and the front are a bit of a pain to remove and restrains accessibility to fans and 3 1/4 dvd cut outs. The rear blue fan is of low quality and I had to move it to exhaust at the back to stop clicking of the fan. If you get an active power supply, it can cause vibration to the case, which can be quite annoying; I had to tear apart a sponge to stop this. They are the only bad points. There's plenty of room to cable manage, there's plenty of room to work in and there's a large cut out for the mother if you wish to mount an aftermarket cooler. Airflow is effective. There's nice feedback on the on button and the additional two fans on the door panels are a nice addition, you don't even know they're there! 04 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Case Overall This is a great mid-size case with adequate amount of space inside, looks great and simply holds my computer parts. Works very well. 21 March 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Stylish and Affordable sweet design (especially the top scales and side window). Reasonably priced. There are cheaper ones but you get what you pay for in terms of quality and design. Lots of pre-installed fans so your pc will never overheat nice blue LED's that come out the top of the case make it look great 16 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by good quality, This case is brilliant i've had no problems. you get everything you need inside the box, even an psu extension so your psu cable will reach from the bottom to the top of the case. the installation of the mother board was only hindered by the effort needed to screw in the screws, took a bit of effort but was worth it. the front of the case has to be removed for installation of the disk drive and it does take a bit of force, the tray on top is so handy for storing an external HDD or even a phone. 12 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Extremely Good Case! I never really new the company 'Zalman' before I saw this case, from the moment I did, I knew this was what I wanted, it is very large to fit a lot of parts inside, it also has extermely good cooling and when I play games, the overall temperature of the motherboard and the CPU never go past 50 degrees! 10/10! Value for money of the year, I would say! 13 February 2014

Hi,

I've noticed on a lot of Zalman's cases they don't have internal USB 3.0 headers which mean you have to route the cables through the back of your case to the motherboard's external rear USB 3.0, if you have it which all motherboards nowadays should have.

So on this case, are there any internal headers or will I have to buy an adaptor?

Thanks.

Answer:
Yes it does. One USB3 header cable that hooks the two ports on the top of the case. You can see it connected in my attached image, and have attached another of the case with both side off. You can see the cable near the bottom here, so it should have enough length for any MB.

Answer:
I ordered the case around 2 weeks ago and the USB 3.0 was internal. Not an external pass through.

To sum up, you will not need an adaptor to plug in the USB 3.0 header directly into the motherboard, and not into the USB 3.0 port on the back.

Answer:
The maximum the card should take is 290mm,any more will make the case have bad airflow. The actual space is 300mm but it will be a time get fit if you get a card like that.

Answer:
The Graphics Card Compatibility for this Zalman Z11 Case is apparently:
290 mm (11.4″)

And your Sapphire Radeon R9 280X TOXIC length is apparently:
308mm (12.1")

So It looks like it won't fit length ways, not sure on width.

Does it come in red?

Do the LEDs come in red instead of blue? Also, does it come with a usb 3 header or just a cable to go to the back of the case?

Answer:
I think it only comes in blue when buying this case but you can buy red LEDs separately.

The PLUS version comes with two USB 3.0 in which you have to connect the header onto your motherboard, obviously inside the case (you don't have to plug it around the back).
