Intel Branding Part I
Intel Branding Part I
Date Issued: 1st Jul 2009

Intel’s been on a mission of late. That mission revolves around grouping and standardising key technologies under various banners that are designed to ensure hardware compatibility and consumer ease of use. We’ll take a closer look at three such technologies that fall under the headings of Centrino, Viiv, and vPro, respectively.

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

There’s been a lot of hype about Intel’s Core 2 recently, even since they launched Core in fact. Words like Conroe, Badaxe and Allendale have been flying around. The bottom line is that Core 2 is the name of Intel’s latest line of CPUs, based on a new micro-architecture, designed for speed and efficiency.

System Noise Reduction
Date Issued: 5th Mar 2007

Anybody who has been near their share of computer systems will appreciate that not all systems make the same amount of noise. There are a number of reasons for why this is so. Firstly, a computer makes noise for different reasons. Generally, anything mechanical is going to make noise.

Thermalright AXP-200 Muscle Low Height CPU Cooler, 140mm Silent Fan, For Intel and AMD CPU, Full nickel plating is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great build quality, fan is good apart from motor noise. A very good high quality cpu cooler. The cooler itself is a lovely nickel build. With my i5 6600k, on stock idle i get 34oC, and on stock load, i get 55oC in a small itx case. It just about fits on my z170 itx board, so best to measure your board and memory height before ordering it. The fan is nice and slim and pulls lots of air in. If you set it to less than 1000rpm, then the choosing noise is less apparent. Unfortunately for me, i can still hear a high pitched noise from the fan. It seems to be the fan motor/bearings. Even with a replacement fan, the noise is still there. Maybe its just my ears. Please note, this version does not include the mounting plate to move the fan to different areas on the cpu cooler.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cooler, fits my mini-ITX motherboard Got this as a replacement for a Raijintek Pallas that stupidly only allows the fan to be positioned from 2 angles, but this cooler allows for all 4 positions for the fan in 90 degree increments, which makes it fit on my Asus A88X-Plus mobo. Brilliant!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Read reviews before buying Great service from SCAN as usual. I have the ROG Impact ITX board and the Thermalright website says it compatable . . . . it's sort of is and isn't. There are only 2 ways to mount this cooler on the impact, heatpipes facing down - covers the PCIe slot so not graphics card, pointless - or heatpipes facing the back of the motherboard - goes over the ram and 24pin power connector - but this will overhang the motherboard by about an inch or more and will hit anything close to the motherboard. I have 2 itx cases, EVGA Hadron Air and the Node 304, this cooler will not fit this board in both cases. One case it hits the hard drive caddy and the other hits the PSU. I would recommend this cooler just not for an ITX board.
